Default 1963 Remington 700 in 7mm Rem Mag

I picked up this old R700 from a fellow calgunner and was pleasantly surprised to find out it was made in Jan 1963, its a C&R (over 50 years old). Has barrel date code "BK". Called Remington and they confirmed the date with the serial number. According to my research Remington released the model 700 in 1962 and the 7mmRM cartridge in 1963. Cant wait to take it to the range. Bore looks pretty clean. It originally had iron sights which were removed at some point (barrel has been drilled and tapped for sights).

Did the original wood come with it?

No, it has what appears to be an older bell and carlson fiberglass stock.

I havent shot it yet but the bore still looks really bright and shiney with strong rifling. Planning to use it as a beater hunting rifle.

I found more info on the first remington 700s:

https://discussions.texasbowhunter.c...d.php?t=569960

It has all the features of an early model 700:

1. Receiver cut for stripper clip guide.
2. Smaller bolt shroud.
3. Square safety and adjustable trigger.
4. Smaller rounded area near bolt knob.
5. Drilled and tapped on left side for a Williams rear sight.

Thinking about eventually rebarrelling it in .30-06. Anyone know if a 7mm magnum bolt will work with a .30-06?

No it will not. The bolthead is cut for the rim of the 7 Mag (0.532") the 30.06 has a cartridge head diameter of 0.473". You'll need a new bolt
