Default Streamlined Membership Transfers

Anyone transfer a TBD membership lately? My last several have been super quick. Within two days, you get an email of completion of transfer and then the new member paperwork arrives within a week! It used to take up to 8 weeks to transfer a membership. Now if they can only streamline the free guns.

Same experience here with the TBD memberships; 2 or 3 days between my e-mail to them and the confirming e-mail back.

I have been told that they are also trying to "accelerate" their gun business processes. (Comment was "...bring them into the 1990s") so there may even be some hope in that area. Would not surprise me if FS Pro Shop wants to get into the "special FS gun" business to sell FS optimized packages, etc. Would seem like they have a natural market niche with the FS membership base.

No need to worry . . . they will start again. Kinda like worrying about where all the water is going during low tide . . . just wait a bit.

If you "already" are a lifetime member, you can get a free "TBD" Communicator membership to transfer to anyone you choose.

There is another thread here for Front Sight members to give these free Communicator memberships to other CalGunners.

You can find the complete offer here.

For those that have taken the Practical Rifle course: did you remove your bullet buttons or train with them? I'm undecided on this. Taking it off would definitely be more convenient but leaving it on would be "training how you fight" which seems to be a running theme in the classes. Thoughts?

Since lots of folks do the practical rifle course with 5-shot bolt actions and at least a few with tube -magazine lever actions, it doesn't seem to me that a 10-round bullet-buttoned AR-15 should be much of a handicap.

You can use your rifle however you want. However, you will be handicapped if you care about doing well on the skills test. I suggest you take the course without the bullet button.

Without a doubt you will meet other Californians and none of them use a bullet button (at least none that i've run into.) If you're going to use a bullet button, save some time and money and train in your area.

for the purpose of passing that handgun test, what are the positions of the pistol and mag pouches on the belt?

Do they have to be behind the body's center line, or are we allow to move them as far forward as possible, as long as they are covered with the concealed garmet?

I haven't take rifle class yet, but I assumed bolt action runs a different grading system than semis.

They haven't said anything to me, but I wear pistol/mag @ 3 & 9 respectively.

I own a vacation house in Pahrump and it makes a fantastic alternative to the Hotels in town. If you're going to Front Sight with family or friends it's great to have a quite place of your own and you'll save $ over a hotel.
3 bedrooms and 2 full baths. Nice fenced yard for relaxing after a day of training.
If you are interested, PM me and I'll send you photos, info and contact.
Cheers.

I wore mine at 3 o'clock position, the rule was "no crossdraw"
not sure if you could wear holster at 1-2 o'clock.
(none in my class had front holster)

I don't think there is a regulation about magazines positions or numbers.

For basic level, the test was not very hard, it's more about your accuracy. I didn't get DG because jerked trigger at headshots.

I got the 2 for 1 deal so the wife can go with me.
Also signed up for the TBD Communicator Membership which I just assigned to a friend. I'm hoping we can at least go to the 2 Day Handgun soon when the weather cools a bit.

With the housing market down in the Pahrump area it's a great idea if you're going to out there alot to rent of buy a place. Homes with an acre can be had for as little as 25K.
I love my place out there. I don't have to transport guns or move them from my truck to my hotel room and pray for no thefts. Ahhh Free America.
Rifle classes and Bullet Buttons....get a Kel-Tec SU-16CA, dump the bi-pod and put a railed forend on it (dot optics too if you like) and run standard capacity drop free mags to your hearts content.
And yes, avoid "The Kingdom" (Pahrump-istan's strip club) it's icky and they no longer import the "Vegas Girls" anymore. If so inclined....Shari's Resort at the end of Homestead is a great place to have a beer, some chow (in their sports bar) and check out a legal brothel :-) Just remember, those of you staying in Vegas...What happens in Vegas, stays on the internet forever.
Almost forgot.... Terribles Lakeside has a killer Prime rib buffet Saturday nights and the Red sky BBQ is awsome.

i'm surprised that FS does not require "controlled pair" for rifle.

I am guessing they are getting the forum ready for the "special spectacular

It will probably be back up in...

I guess that would be quite hard for someone running a M700 or other long barrel bolt rifle with scope...

What makes me really wonder is why do FS requires advanced handgun to attend advanced rifle/shotgun?

It sounds like nearly impossible to most members, unless they live close by or have a lot of free time.

My guess is to purposely reduce the number of advanced classes which need senior instructors. My guess is that beginner level instructors are paid 12 - 15 per hour (maybe even less).

For a 2 day class with a total of 3 instructors (with the head instructor at $15/hr and the line instructors at $12/hr), there is $624 or less in labor cost (2 x 1 x $15 x 8 hours per day + 2 x 2 x $12 x 8 hours per day )

In a 2 day handgun skills builder class with 40 students firing around 600 rounds each. That is 24000 rounds of used casing. Assuming that they are a mix of 9mm, 40sw and 45acp, I think FS can sell used casings for $20 - 30 per thousand. So, 24 * 25 = $600

My conclusion (based solely on guessing) is that on the lower level classes, used brass covers labor costs. So, if the FS facility is paid for already, FS can run as many lower level classes for break-even.
