Did Ruger quit making the target? I don't see it listed on their site.

This the Mini I want. Wish they made a 10rnd mag with thread protector CA model and a wood stock option.

Same here. Turner's has both the 14 and 30 wood stock versions on sale for 799.99

Earlier this year they had the mini 30 for 699.99. still kicking myself for not getting one. I'm sure they will have em back at that cost next year.

I've been gone from the rifle forums for quite a while. I think he needs an evaluation. It's past obsession.

Turners is closing them out in their new weekly ad. $700. It's 2lbs heavier that a regular mini and supposed to shoot only 223 Rem, no 5.56 nato. There's no freebore in it. It has a harmonic thingy on the end of a 22" bull barrel.

Might be worth it just to buy a ranch and have a smith cut/recrown/thread it for you. If I remember correctly Ruger uses some goofy thread, having it done yourself opens you up to a ton of muzzle brake/protector styles out there.

That is the only model I seen in 300Blk. Threaded 5/8-24, think that is standard thread for 308 brakes.

He might have a point. He says he has a mini14, ok. I had a M1 30 carbine that shot like Ray Charles was shooting it. I didn't keep it, and I didn't spend half my life searching the internet for M1 30 carbine threads to come in and bad-mouth it. It's my understanding that most are good shooters.

Wow, big Mini-14 day! First I stoped by Big-5 in town. They have Mini-14 wood for $769, and Mini-30 wood for $839...Hmmm really love the new Minis...

Then I went and picked up my 196 series stainless. Love it. John Masen Sight/muzzle break on the way. I had the combo with the lug, but it would not fit with the strut on it. It also had a deformed front sight. Sent it back to get one without the bayonet lug.

Installed the Accustrut stainless. 9 ozs, but really stabilizes the barrel. I dimpled the gas block for the set screws to engage the gas block. Looks cool too. I had a Black Jack buffer, but too thick to allow the bolt hold open to work. I used one of the Wilson 1911 bushings instead, and it worked. As soon as the replacement front sight comes, I'll get it sighted in.

Back to the 583 series Minis at Big 5. I think I will keep the stainless 196 in the synthetic stock in a case behind the pickup as a truck gun, and get a new 583 series, blued and wood, for a house gun. What the heck, I have three AR15s, why not two Minis!

Here's the pics. I installed my Choate handguard. Not only does it save 2-3 ozs, it cools better, and looks better. I am going to loose the foamy recoil pad! Why would anyone need a recoil pad on a .223? I have two rebuilt shoulders and arthritis, and I don't even need one. I need to get an original Ruger buttplate for a synthetic stock(anyone got one???). The stainless accu-strut looks great. The stock pouch has a Ruger factory 30 in it, and it is an early straight 20 in it. (Don't whine, I'm retired LEO, and can have them. As a matter a fact, according to the Federal Court you can still have yours too.

Nice Mini. The John Masen muzzle brake/sight will make it look like a Mini M1A

Cool, I didn't know they made that model. Turners too far from me, but I'll keep my eyes open up here since now I know they made it.

Turners has a limited sale on the Target Mini right now. $200.00 off, $699.99 plus tax, etc.

Just FYI

I bet you could either ring a steel target or hit a Goblin at 100 yards.

This one shoots pretty well for what it is (30+ year old rifle) being wielded by what I am (almost 64 year old guy wearing specs). When Ruger switched from the traditional M1/M14 ejector system to the side ejector I lost interest in upgrading. This one throws the cases forward at about 1 or 2 o'clock as it should be.

My 185 series Mini, repro Garand scabbard with repro M1 Carbine mag pouch, holds 2 factory 5rnd mags that I converted to 6rnd mags. The Mini will fit in the scabbard with 10rnd mags.

A couple years ago, I had a 582 series Mini-14 I loved, but I got pissed at it (long story) and had someone offer me too much money so I let it go, I have regretted it, as I think the Mini-14 makes a great little home/ranch/camping carbine that is not "in your face" tacticool.

SInce I registered 4 of my long guns, and have three featureless, I wanted another featureless 5.56. SInce I have three ARs, I wanted something different, and I prefer the Mini to the Kel-Tec SU16. Well, I was in my local gunshop last week, and I saw a nice stainless, non-ranch, Mini-14 196 series. As it happened, I had a Glock 21 that I never shoot, and was actually thinking of selling. Long story short, I traded the Glock 21 and some ammo straight across for the Mini.

I have had early Minis with the pencil barrels, and am aware of the accuracy issues. I recently had a chance to shoot a 185 series with an Accu-strut stabilizer and a Tech Sight adjustable rear, and we were getting 2 MOA, or slightly better with some loads. I ordered a Tech Sight and Accu-strut, so for A $425 Glock and $200 in upgrades, I should have a mini-that shoots 2 MOA.

Yes, If I was going to buy it straight out, I would have gotten the 580 series, but the trade was too good to pass up.
No Knock on your trade here. You should get whatever you want! If the opportunity presents itself, then you should go for it! Congrats on getting another Mini 14. Been eyeing one myself, but unfortunately, debt to my bills calls and must pay those off (plus all the ammo i've been hoarding lol)
