Out of curiosity what is the process like there. Do they issue on the spot or mail it to you after they review and due a background check. Time line ?

Nice that they take walk ins , I have been thinking of going up to Klamath Falls but its by appointment only and there is a 2 or 3 month waiting list for appointments last I heard. Grant County is a lot further and I rarely travel to Oregon anyways.

Default Oregon nonresident permit roadtrip?

Grant mails it to you. It took about 15 days to get mine in the mail from them.

I'd be in except I'm doing more of a 'move home to Oregon and get a resident permit' sort of thing in about a week.

Hopefully you all are aware of the history Sheriff Palmer has with Calguns, especially since we funded his acquisition of Live Scan equipment for the Grant County Sheriffs Department in order to help process CHL's for non-residents of Oregon!

BINGO!

Lake County is much closer than Grant County and contiguous to the California border. I have spoken to Heather on a few occasions and she is awesome to work with!

Lake County is also another very small Sheriffs Department like Grant County. Lake County processes all of their CHL applications thru their Civil Division and Heather is their ONLY Civil Deputy!!

So appointments are NOT necessary in Lake County, however you need to call Heather first regarding the date you intend to visit and make sure she is not on vacation or otherwise not on duty. If Heather is not there on the date you visit, you are out of luck!

Lake
co. Heather is "the only hamster on the wheel in the civil dept". Her words, not mine. Call first.

Sheriff Palmer also had a deputy who annually visited family in Southern CA. During his trips, he would set aside time in both southern and northern CA to take applications from Calguns members.

It’s true, and I coordinated the NorCal visit in 2013.

Sal rerouted in 2014 and didn’t drive. Then, the Sheriff closed down out-of-state licensing.

The road trips were time taken out of one staffer’s family vacation done as a courtesy and support for us. I doubt they will be resurrected.
