Default where can i legally practice archery near Elk Grove or Sacramento?

I just bought my first bow and I'm looking to get some practice in

I am aware of the places in Rocklin, El Dorado Hills, Ione, etc., to shoot archery, but I am looking for somewhere in Elk Grove to practice that is basically an open field where I can set up targets and shoot.

near Wild Bills and the Gun Room, there are a bunch of open fields and at times I see people flying their remote controlled airplanes or drones out there...

theres quite a big hill there and it would be super safe if I set up targets and used the hill as a backstop...I was wondering if it was legal there or if ya'll could recommend any place like that where I can LEGALLY shoot and practice

thanks

I just went to discovery this morning and shot at the range. Was hoping for something I can set up myself in a big field somewhere like in Elk Grove, but idk the legality of it.

apparently I can contact "the city" and ask, but idk who i would actually reach out to.

There are really no 'open fields' in the area that don't belong to someone, so I wouldn't just go there and set up without talking to the owner. However, on BLM land, it would probably be ok, as long as the Rangers are clear that you're not out there hunting.

Maybe some folks who shoot on BLM land will have more info. Or call up the parks and rec people in Elk Grove and inquire.

Sportsmen's Warehouse sells a lot of archery stuff, they might have some ideas.

Actually, it is legal to go on private land (open fields) without permission as long as it is not under cultivation, enclosed by a fence or posted.

Huntsprig, it may be legal but it's still not a good idea to walk around on privately owned land. The rancher may be walking around too, with a shotgun....

If you do that in the City of Elk Grove and shoot anything at all--arrows, BB's, pellets, or bullets (obviously), you'll likely be arrested. Discharging a firearm, for sure. Bow/arrow, if it leaves that property and lands on an adjacent property, it's a misdemeanor under EG City Code. Since you're not gonna be sure where property lines are on vacant lots, I'd advise against it. Also for the reasons cited above in other posts.

You could always approach one of the ranchers out along Grantline who own property up to the banks of the Cosumnes River and ask permission. That would be a better bet than just choosing a vacant area at random. And forget about vacant lots in closer to suburbia--forget those altogether.

Valley High School used to have hay stacks in the back near the baseball diamonds but that was 20 years ago. I have no idea if they still have them or if it's legal on school grounds anymore

The reason this thread fizzled out is because there is no place at all in the City of Elk Grove where you would be able to legally shoot arrows in a field.

Since this thread died a year and a half ago, Wild Bill's has branched out into archery. Go there and ask. Check anything they tell you with the Elk Grove PD.
