Do any other ranges have similar steel set ups?
Oak Tree and" A place to shoot" both have steel targets for pistol. A place to shoot also has steel for rifle. Haven't shot rifle at Oak tree .

Angeles Shooting Ranges is a great place to shoot. This is very sad.

I'm thinking they'll rebuild and reopen.

All hands, Good morning. So apparently someone took a direct snap shot of my Facebook post and it has surfaced here on Calguns.net concerning the Sylmar fires. This may appear to come off wrong which I totally understand in context to perception.

So let me just say that a few years ago when I did train at ASR (for at least 3 years) and on one evening when I scheduled a range it apparently wasn't on the calendar and I (with all my customers) was essentially told to pound sand. Via my saved email chain I told the range scheduler what happened, our agreement and that I, and thus the range, lost money.

The scheduler essentially told me to pound sand and that they didn't need my money because they make millions anyways.

I finished my schedule there then left.

So yes, in my very basic human traits I retained some resentment for the scheduler and wouldn't cry if he caught AIDS. I love the range however and the majority of other employees there were fine. I wish the range a speedy recovery.

So to my "visitor" for the sake of the "rest of the story" you're free to copy and paste this too.

don't wory stan, there are lots of bad range stories from angeles from either the office staff or RO's that were rude to customers. i'm sure many of them were also thinking "serves them right" in their heads too.

Awww man, I was planning a trip to go there with a group of my coworkers on Dec 28th. Guess we'll have to go somewhere else like Oak Tree or A Place To Shoot....

I can see why Stan is not shedding tears. Me neither.

I hope they rebuild with better attitude and staff that do not steal your brass from under your foot. I stopped going there long ago. Piru has long range rifle targets to 1000 yards if I need that kind of range. Otherwise, oak tree is a lot nicer of a place with better amenities and no gangsta type patrons stealing your guns and mags.

Angeles Shooting range is my favorite range and I went bi-weekly, but it was never because of the employees but rather the range itself. It's hit or miss one day I'll get a nice girl at the counter and the next I'd get someone who seemed annoyed she had to just ring me up. Same with the ROs, there are some cool ones and not so cool ones. But once again I go for the nice range itself.

I do have one story though, during ceasefire I walked down range to put up a target and noticed two ROs going through my range bag, I thought nothing of it thinking they were just doing their job. I get home and in my zipped range bag was missing my Troy flip sights. I didn't see them take it with my own eyes so it's just a assumption, but now I watch my stuff like a hawk and when a RO touches anything whether it be a bag or my rifle I'll ask what they're doing.

Let's be honest, it was a ghetto of a range and was run accordingly.

Read the Angeles thread. There are a zillion horror stories a dozon (or more) of which I witnessed. Just do a search for "Oakly dude".

Desert Marksman has long range targets. If you are near Palmdale and Castaic (burbank rifle club) has long range targets also. Is that close?

Crud, I was going to drive there Saturday to shoot outdoors for the first time. Maybe I'll do Burro but it isn't open as early so I'll have to go after my Doctor's visit.

Why don't you explain your POS post then? Wishing ill on them in a time of tragedy is garbage and shows lack of character so if that was you please do explain your ill wishes on ASR. We will await your response. (feet are a tapping)

I never went there much, didn't like the brass theft but overall had no problems there. There is businesses however that I would he happy to roast marshmallows on the burning embers of and make smores with a big smile on my face. Many of them are gun shops and a range.

And I would not even give a drop of piss to help put out the flames. It is a big loss to lose such a range in such an urban environment. I'm sure they have insurance and a game plan for such occurances since they have dealt with this before and know the risks of being in that area.

DM is 105 miles by road from me. Angeles was “only” 65 miles.

Supporting 2A has nothing to do and is not the same as supporting every abusive azz hat who gets into this business. They are the ones who discourage and turn off people from the sport.

I have rarely heard people speaking ill of the dead. But, go read the reviews (here on calgun) on a dude named Evan the gunsmith. Won't get many well wishes being nasty to people.

Kinda disingenuous of you with regard to the "visitor"
re posting what you already put out there for all to see...

Duplicity?

Desert Marksmen normally only has mid-range, 600 yards maximum.

The long range 1000 yard line is restricted to the monthly matches or special approved reservations (90-day notice).

That's Angeles Armory, not Angeles Shooting Range, he's a cool guy with a gun shop right below Angeles range.

Last time I went, there was no gun shop there and his post says "outdoor shooting" not "gun shop will be open'.

Yeah he's a new shop next to the reloading station adjacent to the parking lot, think they opened up just a few months ago, owner is Nabil and he is very cool and friendly. Looks like his post is just a repost screenshot from Angeles Shooting Range's social media.

My post was to warn of the fires, particularly to shooters heading up to Angeles to shoot, as I had been literally in the middle of doing Tuesday morning until I saw (and smelled) the smoke.

It's a terrible tragedy for anyone and any business. For any of Angeles' faults as have been expressed, none are so overwhelming that it relegates them to 'terrible' status that wishing them such catastrophe is warranted.

Stan's complaint is about the worst I've heard, and his beef after he explained it is justified. I appreciated his photo, and found it best to overlook his Karma comment; it was irrelevant and needed no extrapolation or wonder. Wishing that kind of ill on someone considering how he feels he was wronged, deserves no cultivation, even if to Stan it seems justified.

All other complaints are nominal, from the suspicion employees are stealing brass to those emotionally undone because a desk-clerk did not give them a smile and tickle. For the brass situation, speak up; they'll stop immediately upon telling them you save your brass. For the latter, simply grow a pair.

For the most part, Angeles Shooting Ranges runs at about an 85% approval rating, and that's about the case with any successful business.

And losing one of the largest and only out-door ranges within near walking proximity to one of the most Anti-2nd Amendment cities in the nation is a genuine concern. The place is not so bad that it deserves awful wishes for destruction. I have not seen one complaint from anyone that warrants that from any individual, including that from Stan.

I had no intention of posting this news for it to become a whiny, effeminate, share your "trigger for having been offended" thread.

Angeles Shooting Range is shut down due to the fire, and it burned. You can't go there because of it, until they re-open.

If you choose not to go there even when they are open, so? This fire does not influence you, their closure does you no harm, you are not inconvenienced at all. So what does any of this have to do with you? You would not have gone there anyway.

Go off and post in the complaint thread about Angeles if you need to superficially feel better and need that cathartic process to heal your emotional infringements.
