Default 2/8/17 Steel Peak confirmed closed to shooting.

I was in MV today and took the opportunity to swing by the BLM office.

The gentleman who I spoke with confirmed that SP is closed to shooting and is currently taped off as a no shooting zone and enforced by RCSD.

I asked if the entire area is closed for all purposes, or just to shooting. His response was that it is closed to shooting, is for the present time opened to off roading, and opened to hiking without restriction.

Apparently the area will soon be restricted to hiking only because it has been determined that the area is a habitat for some species of creature. Signs/fencing will eventually close off certain trails.

He acknowledged that there is some kind of Riv. County Board of Supervisors meeting to be held in the near future to discuss the future of SP, but he did not have any specifics on that.

Sounds to me like a triple whammy trifecta of getting pummeled in the keister, dry.

1. Complaints of shooting by nearby residents.
2. Potential or current annexation by Lake Elsinore.
3. Endangered habitat for wildlife.

All the trash is just icing on the cake for this cluster poke.

Kangaroo rat, MV does not govern SP< Palm Springs does. Can you name the agent you spoke with please.

I say this cause I was there Sunday, next to a big white SUV with FED plates on it at the last drop.

For those that were there last year for the cleanup and missed the link

Your right trash was just the easy route to blame a closure on but there is sure to be alternative motives behind it . Is it also closed to hunting ?

The mission of the BLM is:
"to sustain the health, diversity, and productivity of the public lands for the use and enjoyment of present and future generations."
Except for the exercising of your Second Amendment Rights.

Calico, I didn't ask for his name. Young guy with a beard.

Vaka, didn't ask about hunting. I imagine if hunting is for fowl (dove, quail) it will probably okay as long as it isn't in areas marked as "sensitive" to wildlife.

The MV BLM office phone is 951.697.5200. Personnel at that office has always been helpful and willing to share information.

BLM isn't responsible for this closure or enforcing it. RCSD is.

I predicted this 1-2 years ago. Way too many people found out about it and it got trashed. I stopped going long ago. What's the next well known closest spot now, Hodge Road?

Those people that go there to collect brass are going to be very saddened.

Agreed. I've seen the same lady collecting brass there for years. Didn't seem to matter which day of the week or time of day, I'd usually see her.
