SP-01 Mods/Upgrades
Hey all!
Just got my SP-01 out of jail. Do you guys have any easy mods/upgrade recommendations for this handgun? It will primarily be a range toy, I don't plan to carry it or use it for HD. I've heard the CGW Pro package is pretty popular, but that's a bit too expensive for my taste. I'd prefer something cheaper and that I could do myself (I'm an amateur though). |

Congratulations!
I remember when I had a CZ SP-01; it was stock for about a month... Before - Then after posting a poll and reading up on what was available, I sent it out to Dave at CGW and received my custom masterpiece... Not cheap, but sooooo worth it

just use and it you should be plenty happy as a range toy. Your smile just gets bigger the more you are willing to spend. You can get the CGW sear and hammer as a basic upgrade. That alone improves the trigger feel.

You can do the pro package yourself if you are comfortable with the work. I did my own (bought the starter punch too) and a bunch of polishing as well. Works great. And with a CGW recoil and hammer spring, it shoots my favorite ammo very nicely.

Upgrade? Get yourself a Kadet kit and a whole lot of .22 and 9mm ammo. You will feed them with 200 rounds of .22 with the Kadet kit and 200 rounds of 9mm weekly and you will thank me later.

You’re going to have a gun in the house but don’t plan on using it for HD? I have no idea how that works. Mods: grips, sights, hammer. That $300ish already. Mags x5 another $200, holster and or pelican (Apache) case $100-$180, and plenty of ammo. Xtp bullets are accurate for a jhp. Oh and 9mmContagion has a NeoMag for sale Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk |

I honestly love the gun as is. Only thing ive done was ceracote my frame for 85 at OC CUSTOMS (stripped frame). I suggest more buy more mags (mecgar) and grips. I did not like the bumps on the Original grips. Alot of after market grips are alot thinner profile and allow you to choke up higher on the gun.53EEAC54-9AD9-4C87-A5D6-1827429EE1D5.jpg

The first 500 rds just to break-in your pistol. The next 500 to get familiar with your pistol. After 1K+ rds, then you will know what component that you pistol need to improved for your shooting style. Then you may have the following options: - Spend $600 to send your pistol to CGW. - Buy the CGW kit and do it yourself. - Install the fiber optic sights - You may end up with spend 4 buck at CVS to buy a white nail polish and paint your front sight, that's all you need. Oops, I almost forget, put that pistol to a safe then buy another CZ and start all over again Last edited by newbie1234; 01-15-2019 at 8:53 PM.. |

I like my SP-01 as is, however, I did get a kadet and it is absolutely awesome.

I'm a big fan of replacing the sight, trigger, hammer. Pro package in-house is expensive, but you could try doing it piecemeal on your own, as many of the parts can be installed without the others.

I'm 200 rounds into my brand spankin' new SP-01 but like the advice of waiting until I get to the 1,000-1,500 mark before I contemplate any changes. I will certainly be taking it apart for a polish job though. I've done that with all my firearms except for my 1911.

So maybe his point it to eliminate that retort and just get recommendations on modifications for those not worried about a gun fitting the HD/SD role. |

The single best mod I did to mine was replace the hammer with one from CGW. It removed the extra creep after you hit the wall on your trigger pull, where the hammer continues to move back. I considered selling it before doing that and now it's my favorite gun to shoot.

Can't speak for the OP, but I don't use my SP-01 for HD. I'm not too comfortable using a gun with such a light SA trigger pull (after CGW mods) as my primary HD gun, I have other guns better suited for that task which offer a DA first pull. With that being said, if this were my only gun I would not hesitate to use it for HD, I would just mod it accordingly.

This. Seems to me like CZs smooth out more than the average gun after about 1K rounds. YMMV

Update: A week and about 600 rounds later, I caved and ended up buying the CGW pro kit. While my wallet is sad, I'm very glad I did it.
Question for you folks: What are the benefits of fiber optic sights over the stock night sights? |

Fiber Optic gives you a nice BRIGHT front sight, except in low light. Fast target acquisition! I prefer fiber optic front with black out rear.

I wasn't planning on upgrading mine for a while but I GOT to shorten the trigger in DA. I can live with the trigger weight and reset point, but the thing is if I'm going in to do the shorten trigger, I might as well drop a new hammer in, and SRS kit.
