[QUOTE=Swiss;10879613]How about a banner over Hwy 80 on the Berkeley pedestrian walkway? There's usually somebody up there with a political message for the many thousands of daily commuters, why not one that's tastefully pro-gun? And it's right in the backyard of Hancock, Skinner, Bonta, etc.

We will definitely need some legal counsel on that. To make sure that the placing the banner will be lawful. 1st A comes to mind.

Guys, Remember...

Dont help them fix their bill. There are always obvious errors from our perspective that they might not notice (until they browse these forums).

The worse its written the easier it is to get it tossed in court.

IANAL and maybe someone brought this up already, but I thought there was case law that said you can't be charged with failure to register an illegal weapon because it amounts to self incrimination. Now there may be different ways of phrasing it, and it may not apply to this case, but I'm sure there are some 5th amendment grounds against this law.

So once it's registered, can you remove the bullet button and run it with features and a detachable magazine? I mean, it's a registered "assault weapon" afterall.

I didn't see it, but does it define a new CLASS of assault weapons or once its a registered assault weapon isn't it the same as current RAW's?

Not this one, the one that bans your Model 60 is SB-374 brought to you by Steinberg, Hancock and Yee.

It's in this thread. http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...ghlight=marlin

they can blow me.
The opposition doesn't care about "your" individual rifles.

Honestly they could care less about registration rates either. The strategy is "software" based, not "hardware" centric. The game plan isn't necessarily getting every weapon on paper-for all intents and purposes in California that's already the case.

No, the game plan is making gun ownership a royal pain in the azz for the layperson. If exercising your 2nd Amendment rights requires licenses, background checks, expensive fees and onerous waiting periods, most laypeople and newcomers won't bother with the process. THATS the key, because long term that reduces the number of gun owners in a given social area.

The anti's then let time do the rest. As people move out and grow old , so too will the 2nd Amendment in CA. The anti's don't need to send trucks out with SWAT teams to collect your guns; they'll just ban everything and wait 10 years. Your hardware will be in three places at this point: hidden behind wall spackle, in a storage or home out of state, or in a police evidence locker.

When the coup de grace of a total ban is offered for consideration at the Capitol, it'll pass with flying colors and applause from the population. Why? Because there won't be anyone left to oppose it!

We really need to remember these things come election time. We need to bust that dumbocrat supermajority in the politburo come the next election. How do we do it? Contribute to 2A friendly candidates, the NRA, CRPA, SAF and other pro gun groups. It doesn't need to be hundreds of dollars, a $5 or $10 donation here and there by everybody will help immensely. Also contact your reps via email and telephone to voice your opinion.

When that freedom hating Leland Yee introduced his last bill, I understand some reps were receiving 700 calls a day in opposition to it. It's absolutely amazing how the Bay Area and LA control virtually everything for this state.

Nobel man!

Get at least 1 AR though they're fun to have and effective for home protection.
Just the look of it will send chills through the spine of an intruder.

They're a horrible choice for home protection. One shot without ear protection inside a house? Let me know how that works out for you. And don't mind if you miss and your neighbor gets a 556 round through their wall.

Why don't we hold off on the panic until after this passes and we see the final language. Then we can begin to talk about court challenges and the best way to go about registration if it needs to occur during the court challenge.

I agree, but from a different direction.

After the shooting you'll have to go to a place called "court".

In court, you'll get the pleasure of convincing a panel of 12 gun ignorant people that you were in the right to shoot Joe Gangbanger Honor student.

Which gun do you want that Grand Jury to see?

This:

Or the "Newtown Special" :

Choose carefully. The jury gets to decide whether you should be tried for a crime or not;and trials aren't cheap.

Huh? You really should educate yourself as to how a .556 round penetrates (or not) drywall compared to a handgun round.

I'll not Google it for you as it's not very hard to find.

If you disagree, post your source(s) and I'll post mine.

While the 5.56 may fragment depending on bullet type, it will still travel further than a 9mm unless youre shooting fragmentable bullets. Even if it didn't, shoot a 5.56 indoors without hearing protection and let me know how well you get a follow up shot placed on your intended target after the shock from the noise.

No room for infighting about stupid issues. We need to focus on the important ones on hand. Keep it on topic. And remember, think before you post. We don't want to help them with this bill in any way.

Lotsa FUD here. I'd use 5.56 any old day of the week for home defense. You will not penetrate your wall and your neighbor's wall too. NO WAY. The bullet has a tendency to fragment.

And don't talk about how this bill would interact with SB 374 either. Until either bills are on the governors desk, they can be amended.

I'd be willing to chip in and help with the banner idea.

Although The Politically-Correct-All-Inclusive-Under-A-Rainbow People's Republik of Berkeley might not be very receptive to that idea.

I'd also be willing to take a shift protesting in front of Senator Yee's home, as
sl0re10 suggested.

If this passes and is signed into law, I fully expect an injunction to be filed on the behalf of CA gun owners. And all those who said that Jerry Brown would be pro-gun, it's getting close to time to find out if you were correct.

I also hope that arguments against this bill are being formed in preparation for the coming lawsuit as well... The money I'm donating through amazon purchases each month better be going to something substantial.

I also expect to see a lot of non-compliance to this bill.
