Not sure of the gunsmith that took over after Evans died, but Evans himself was a freaking jerk. He was one of the very few who could legally work on AW's in CA. Walked into his store where he was twirling a Detective Special revolver while BS'ing with some regulars, his feet kicked up like he had nothing to do. Told him I would like him to weld/pin an extended A2 FH onto a 14.5" barrel for an AR and brought him all the parts and donor rifle. Then he piped up about calling the ATF because he said just having the 14.5" barrel with an AR was constructive possesion of an SBR. After coming to his senses and taking the parts, he said lead time would be 12 months. 18 months later, I finally got it back as wanted but it was a total hassle.

New guys might be good, but my experience was God awful back in the day. I'll personally never go back even with the dude dead.

I only interacted with Evan, I don't know who does the gunsmithing work now.

Back in the late-90s, Evan did some trigger work on my Glock 22.
It took a couple of months (WTF!), but it was being done for free.

Bad Experience here as well. I bought an AR from Evan at the Pomona Show. Paid Cash in full, got a receipt, had to wait to pick it up. Drove all the way down there on a Saturday after calling to confirm they would be there. "CLOSED". It happened twice. B.S. Excuse each time. Lucky I have a good friend in HB or it would have been a real pisser. I would look for reviews online before I would trust anything to that place.

I have used the gunsmith there recently twice.

Once about a year or two ago I took my Dad's revolver there. It was an old Taurus revolver from he 60's and wasn't cycling correctly. Took a few weeeks, but got it back and they did a great job.

A few months ago I had them put Truglo sights on my shield. Took about 1 week as their gunsmith was sick for a few days.

I see no reason to not use the current gunsmith.

Evan was a pompous azz. I would not want to use anyone who took over his business and kept Evan's name associated with it.

Kelly his wife has owned it since Evan died. She is no joy to deal with, but she is not there all of the time. A retied Marine, Skipper is the gunsmith and is a real nice guy. Call and speak to him and see if he can arrange to help you out. Yes, some of the staff can be aholes, but most are regular good guys.

Not a fan. If you manage to get decent gunsmithing done there, watch for the black lung from their lack of ventilation.

Hello, I am the new owner of Evans Gun World, formerly Evans Gunsmithing Shooters World. It is unfortunate you have received poor service. We took over ownership in September and have a new Gunsmith as well. We have been able to shorten gunsmithing times but have more work to get where I want us. We are working every day to improve every aspect of the range. Please contact me with any suggestions you may have. We are addressing ventilation, lighting, and overall customer service.

Thank Christ someone else is running the show. I would consider going there now after 15 years of having a bad taste in my mouth about the previous experience.

I knew Evans from the local gun shows and virtually everything written here is true. He was not a nice person. I will let it go at that.

AMAZING that he was such a ahole to people that even when he's DEAD people STILL won't go there.

Even more amazing is that it's SUCH a clear path to fix

FIRE every ahole that works there. Period.

ONLY hire people that will and DEMAND that every staff member there treat every customer every time with courtesy and respect.

CHANGE the name. What is your name? You didn't even sign your intro there. If it's Steve, make it Steves Gun World. Or shorten it to Gun World. You can keep the "formerly Evan's Gun World" for a year if you want.

Hire a young person to get out there on forums and social media for a couple hours a day and get to changing that reputation.

Put up a giant banner and get on every gun forum you can find. NEW MANAGEMENT / NEW OWNER

Put as much distance inbetween your NEW company and that old ahole that you can.

I have no brands in the fire when it comes to your shop. I don't live in that part of CA. I wanted to say, thank you for helping to keep the sport alive and good luck on your endeavor. I hope old customers of Evan will give you a chance. I hope new customers that heard of the bad rep will see for themselves. Guys, give him a chance and suggestions to help him along.

It looks like the owner of Schmacher's Waterfowl Supply in Orange has bought out Evan's Shooters World.

Quote:
Waterfowler Gear, Inc. is proud to announce the purchase of Evan's Gunsmithing & Shooters World. Evan's has a proud history of providing indoor shooting in Orange County.
Unfortunately, this means Schumachers Waterfowl Supply will no longer exist. We will be bringing our firearm sales, choke tubes, hunting licenses, and duck calls with us.
For our regular customers we hope you will come in and enjoy a cup of coffee with Pete, maybe bring him a maple bar.

Default Anybody use the gunsmith at Evans shooting range in Orange?

I appreciate all the feedback. I am taking all of the input into consideration to make the range enjoyable and safe for everyone. We will make some mistakes but I will do my best to make it “right”. Customer service and the overall vibe of the place are being improved daily.

I would like to address the reputation of the place before. I am well aware of it and the possible bad taste people may have for the Evans brand. I never met Evan but have been told about what his vision for shooting and gunsmithing in Orange County. I believe in his vision. His wife Kelly did a phenomenal job after her husband passed of Leukemia, keeping the place running. You have to remember, she wasn’t a shooter, it wasn’t her passion. She was thrown into the mix, having to run a business, Family, and the loss of her husband. I appreciate everything she has done. I have decided to maintain Evans name despite any negatives, the vision remains the same and I respect what he created. As stated above we are working hard to improve all of the complaints I have experienced personally and read about.

We are Waterfowler Gear Inc, we did run Schumachers Waterfowl Supply a block away. That location is now closed. We brought our gun sales and hunting knowledge with us. If you ever did business with us there you have met my Father. He is a great example of what customer service should be. This will be how we strive to do business at Evans Gun World.

And yes, someone posted above, I am a local firefighter as my career. My wife is a local Police Officer. You may not always see me due to my job but rest assured I am hiring really good people to handle the place when I can’t be there.

I love what I am hearing.

But I would Strongly Suggest a name change.
You won't lose any of the LEO business (in my opinion).

I have wanted to use Evans for many years, but always felt uncomfortable with the place. Sounds like you are changing that. Good for you !

Hey, I'm willing to give a new shop a chance.. no sense in punishing you for the prior owner's problems.

Evan was funny.. he was licensed to work on 'assault weapons' but refused to work on AKs, since they were unamerican.. lol

Good luck with the new deal.. what is your current lead time for small jobs like sights on a Glock?

Our gunsmith works Tuesday through Saturday 10am-6pm. If he is there, usually sight installs and most Glock issues can be fixed on the spot. If I am there, I will handle it on the spot as I am a Glock Armorer. We are attempting to get guns back to the customers as quickly as possible. We have messed that up on a couple since I took over but for most, we are getting them turned around very quickly. The ones we didn’t get back to the customer in a sufficient amount of time, I gave them the service for free.

Don’t know if it’s feasible or not, but if you guys are able to have some hvac inside the range it would bring me back to your range. The last time I was there it was just as hot inside as it was outside. I’ve been going to ft3 and would happily come back to your range if you had a setup like that.

I don’t believe you. There is no way it was just as hot inside as out... it’s always hotter inside. Lol

In the mean time I am providing free water bottles when the temps are just too damn high. It’s not much but I’m doing what I can.

We are looking into new ventilation and target systems. This is a bigger project and we are waiting for Shot Show to see all of the options available. I have some ideas and will be using experienced range designers to help make the improvements.

This sounds very promising. Offering free water may seem like something small, but that something small goes a long ways in my book. I’ll definitely drop by and give you guys a try.

double taps for ccw holders? Or special times where ccw holders can practice double taps. That would make me a member once again.

I have been going to evans for a few years now. I currently am a member at the range, I can see where some of the posts are accurate in that some of the previous staff were complete horses %&*es. I also used the previous gunsmith once and only once. I would be willing to try the new one now that i am aware of the new guy.

As to the range itself, It does need better lighting and ventilation. But I have seen some improvements in the past few months.

I cant speak to the new owner as I have not met him yet. But it seems that he does care and wants a better range for all of us.

I've been a member for a few years and went today to shoot and renew my membership.

Met Peter the owner and was impressed with his attitude and openness . Seemed like a very nice guy with energy and a desire to improve range. I suggested he have a thick skin when dealing with you guys here on CG's.

Lane #4 is still the black lung lane.

Also had my 1st squib. Nobody to blame but me.

I haven't interacted with the gunsmith, but I shot at Evans several times a year in the 2013-2015 time frame. Everyone treated me well. No complaints.

Nowdays I just go setup some targets behind the barn.

Yes. We are working on this. I believe it will be a similar thing as rifle night. We will have a specific time each week for CCW holders to do something more than “target practice”.

Some things are really, really earned. All it took for me was talking to him for about 30 seconds. He was/is the biggest douche I've ever met.

You may not always see me due to my job but rest assured I am hiring really good people to handle the place when I can’t be there.
worth repeating, best of luck.

Evan was a complete dick, and after dealing with him trying to get some work done on a RAW, I never stepped foot in that place again. DR AR15 my ***. I would have to agree with what others have said. There is a LONG list of people who will never step into that place again simply because that *******s name is on the door.

Post of the day! I know others that feel the same. I rarely go in that place. My visits sometimes were years apart.

I know a guy that when I told him Evan died he was ecstatic and wanted to know where he was buried so he could go piss on his grave.

The new owner has got to be secretly loving this.

There's no way he can do any worse.
