Well, was only semi-serious. It's too much effort to ACTUALLY bother.

I meant COULD I be the "depository for hire" and give the notice to the LL of the circumstances of how the firearm was found, let them know that I would giving it to the police station and thereby being the one that claims it if the owner abandons it?

The statute seems to be that someone who finds something doesn't HAVE to do anything, but that doesn't seem to preclude someone else from 'finding' it who does want to take charge.
