Default Keeping the heat on DOJ

What can we as a community do to ensure DOJ continues to put forth adequate effort in the timely processing of BBAW registrations?

DOJ spent an additional $2.6M hiring 26 Criminal Identification Specialists to implement the SB880/AB1135 registration process. Reported time for registration approval has been 6-8 weeks during a relatively moderate period of application submission. With the surge of late applications and technical difficulties Im sure the 6-8 week processing timeline will extend dramatically.

The PRA rqst Only 6,213 People Registered AWs stating that by 30JUN only 6,213 individuals had approved registrations for 13,519 firearms makes me chuckle, but that is probably less than 10-20% of the total (my guess based on - Birds and registration).

We need to know how many applications are still pending and how many are pending next week and the week after and

DMV jokes aside - there should be an expected throughput.

Is there any effort by CRPA, FPC, NRA to keep the heat on DOJ? i.e. public shaming about inability to compete the task in a timely fashion? Crashing website broadcasts is a good start NBC Felon Gun Owners, but what about application throughput - DOJ chose to create this monster - 90% of this wasnt required by the signed legislation.

I could submit a weekly PRAR which they will probably look for a way to round-file. If we all submit PRARs - it will be counter productive.

Ultimately, Id like to see a weekly updated tracker on the DOJ website that shows how many applications are still pending - will never happen on their on accord.

Thoughts?

Interesting numbers. Not many people were aware of the veto gunmageddon, so I assume not many are aware of the bbAw reg. period. Maybe those numbers were mostly hunters and cg folks jk lol.

I'd rather see a concerted effort to see that the California DOJ drop the whole unconstitutional BS.

I don't need to know, nor care about, any number of applicants, etc, etc.

The question is...why do you? And like a few others here, why do you feel the need to attempt to prop up the registration numbers?

Compliers remorse?

I think he wants to request the numbers, weekly, to keep tabs on how many pending apps DOJ is processing weekly, and try to determine an ETA for when they'll be finished.

I like that idea - making sure DOJ is still moving forward. They only hired their temp workers for 1 year, and the 1-year is up next month, so it will be interesting to see what happens after that.

I don't think anyone really cares what the registration numbers will be, other than maybe for a good chuckle.

26 people finished 6K registrants in 12 month. The only explanation is people waited until the last month or moment.

Flintlock - I like the lawsuit - timely.

cockedandglocked - exactly what I'm talking about. We are a minority in CA with few advocates. Easy for DOJ to focus on other issues and allow the registration process to languish - they already have what they want from us, no reason for them to make issuing registration letter a priority.

I realize reviewing submissions will take some time, but while in this limbo people are being deprived of the use of legally owned property - to a point that they need to dissemble their property to avoid being charged with a crime.

I think I'm going to try the weekly PRA rqst, I'll share how it goes here.
