Default Most Reliable AR-15 Bolt Carrier Group?

Looking for a proven reliable bolt carrier group to go into my AR-15 upper. So far I'm reading a lot of people are preferring LMT. What are some of the most reliable bolt carrier groups in your guys opinion?

Vltor MUR1A Upper
5.56 Daniel Defense 16'' Barrel (Carbine Length Gas system)

Budget $200-300

there’s a video on YT showing the lugs shearing off on the sharps BCG. go with mil-spec, i can guarantee you won’t put it through more than it can handle.

I use Daniel Defense and Aero Precision BCG with the Fail Zero NiB coating if I want to be fancy.

Eh that was back in 2014? Bad heat treating. I think by now they corrected the problem. I've broken a few other bolts over the years. It can happen and its mostly due to bad heating treating.

Since you have a dd barrel why not choose the dd bcg. It’s a quality unit and in you’re $200 range.

"Reliability" includes other things besides shear strength. The NiB Spikes Fail Zero and WMD Guns NiB-X coated promise better lubrication and less carbon fowling. Lubrication and fowling are always AR issues. Anybody have a NiB BCG?

Go with a Toolcraft for $70. I doubt anybody can show any of the pricier options actually are any more reliable.

Unless you're shooting suppressed, just go with a phosphate, nitrided, or NiB Toolcraft. There's no real reason to spend more than that for a DI build unless you want a lightweight bolt or one designed for use with suppressors.

$79 Toolcraft. I can't think of a good reason to spend more unless you are going to war. If so, then you get the most competitive, lowest cost GI bolt.

+1 Toolcraft

NiB reacts to some solvents.

+1 Toolcraft and LMT.

Mag phosphate finish is good to go.

And if you've got the extra coin and you want to get fancy, chrome finishes offer high wear and corrosion resistance and cleans up real nice too.

bought and sold all sorts of modern BCG's. As long as the extractor is good, nothing beats original Colt M16A1 IMHO. Have had good experience with these particular kits (no affiliation with seller): https://whatacountry.com/colt-m16a1-parts-kit.aspx

A simple milspec BCG will be good enough for most applications. DD bcg is great as is right out of the box.

If you’re looking to upgrade, a buddy of mine has been using the Lantac BCG and speaks very highly of it. He’s used it for range work and competition shooting. It’s a little too rich for me.

I’ve personally used NiB and standard offerings from Spikes and I’ve also tried a couple of other milspec from others (Stag, Windham) without issues.

WOA sells barrel and parts, aside from complete uppers - https://www.whiteoakarmament.com/sho...ier-group.html

BCG is still good after about 12k rounds, only upkeep I have done is gas ring replacement every at every 2.5k or 3k interval.

BCM is used all of my ARs.
Ive had Colts, Daniel Defense, FN and my BCM bcgs have always worked flawless. Even using any type of steel cased ammo.
My Colt and Daniel Defense bcg have choked on steel case ammo.

FYI, Toolcraft only makes bolt carriers. The bolts used in the BCGs they sell are made by someone else. Not saying they don't use good-quality bolts.

And please forgive if this has already been mentioned above. I did some reading and some skimming.

$730 is a lot of money just for a used BCG.

BCM, Colt, LMT, Daniel Defense.

You know what you are getting when you buy those (there might be a few others).

I have a fancy chromed Daniel Defense BCG and while the carbon doesn't stick to it, neither does oil. So phosphate for me.

unless you shell out for a SR15 E3 system.

These have performed well for me. Any of the alpha shooting sports bcg’s. I had a bad Ni boron one and they replaced it asap and upgraded to the V2 version

I have a Stag phosphate, FailZero Nib, Franklin Armory Nitride, Youngs Milspec, Alpha Shooting Sports Nitride, and a DPMS Chrome milspec all have run high round counts and no issues.
My favorites are the phosphate / black nitride BCG's and the NiB is not worth the extra cost but does like nice when its clean.
