Hello everyone, looks like it's time for a new poll on this subject. A lot can happen in four or five years especially in the California firearms culture and community.

This post is based off of the last one by Ramzar in 2013. Vote for your favorite or pick as many as you want and if you wish tell us why.

Polls are limited to only 12 so 5 are left out but all 17 are listed below with website links.

If anyone has suggestions or recommendations on how to make the list more relevant and up to date please comment.

Here are the websites for the various outfits listed in no particular order:
  1. Covered 6
  2. Dynamic Training Concepts (DTC)
  3. FOG (Falcon Operations Group)
  4. FTA (Firearms Training Associates)
  5. 5 Arrows Tactical Training (Darren Harlow)
  6. ITTS (International Tactical Training Seminars)
  7. PTS (Phoenix Tactical Solutions)
  8. TAC-1 (Tactical Advanced Combat)

For advanced up to date tactical training... an instructor / school that has been in operation for over 25 years with an emphasis with military / Law Enforcement training but also welcomes civilians; Direct action group. The Tactical handgun classes (I/II/) are great for beginning handgun shooters looking for an excellent foundation of the basics of marksmanship and weapons manipulation. Handgun level III is where you start to learn to "fight" with your handgun. Once you have all that down, the advanced tactical classes are awesome fun!

Some other samples of the training...

My favorite class... I never miss....

You can be as general or as specific as you want. All shooter levels and all kinds of training. Each group will of course have their strong suits so delineating it as you did is perfect.

I would concur with this. Greg Block does a good job with entry level training. Bill Murphy ( Ex SWAT / GunSite instructor) over at Firearms Training Associates runs some good entry level beginner/ intermediate civilian oriented training as well.

PTS! They teach relevant real world techniques that they constantly evaluate, the classes are customized to optimize for the students in a particular class, their pricing is very reasonable, and the quality of instruction is high. I could go on and on but basically you can’t go wrong training with them.

+1 for Phoenix Tactical Solutions for exactly the same reasons.
They don't just go through the motions, they give you feedback on everything you do (good and bad) to help you be a better shooter.

Interesting thread... I am subscribing and see how it goes... As am looking forward to trying the other schools, as well.

Personally, I have been through a few here in SoCal. Some were quite good; while others had us just throwing lead downrange.

That said, wasn't FOG that "disappeared" because no range wanted them due to unsafe practices?

ITTS
Have almost 100 hours of training with them, handgun 1,2,3 and carbine 1,2,3 with advanced handgun and sniper 1 and 2 scheduled for 2019.
Safety meeting every morning (usually two day classes) and instruction from active and former LAPD SWAT D-Team with practical application based on actual experience. The SWAT stories themselves are worth the price of admission. It ain't cheap but when LEO's from other departments show up for training, it says a lot and oftentimes you get to see their dept issued NVG's (for night shoots) and suppressors in action which is pretty cool.

It's actually quite competitive IF people sign-up for the Bundle and/or during special events, ie., like the Thanksgiving/Black Friday sale which is at 30% off.

Only two qualms here... First, the administrative fee for rescheduling for whatever reason and for whatever date before class - $50. That is why I schedule my classes as late as possible...

And second, there is not much vetting of skills (like I see in other outfits) before being allowed in the more advanced classes. I see shooters in Advanced Handgun, for example, that suffer/have glaring problems with either the fundamentals and/or basic techniques.

Good training nonetheless... In particular are the specialty classes, ie., Concealed Carry Tactics and Active Shooter (this is hands down what I'd recommend). Next year, I am looking forward to the new Anatomy of a Shooting.

My few cents here...

So I am looking at PTS's website and I can't find much of a Training Schedule besides a few linked tweets. Do they have a schedule somewhere that I am not seeing?

This has come up numerous times and I have addressed it. I left ADE approximately 10 years ago. I refuse to bad mouth anyone to either defend or elevate myself. I ONLY care about the feedback we receive from our students. Merry Christmas!

Well said. From the poll thus far it seems PTS's track record speaks for itself. Looking forward to taking a class in 2019

  17. WOTG (Way of the Gun – Frank Proctor)
    Added during poll:
  18. Top Gun Training Center +1 vote
Since you have listed traveling instructors such as Proctor and Gonzalez , you may want to add Mike Panone, Bill Rapier, and Kyle Defoor. Also, Alias is defunct, now replaced by Aztec.

https://www.amtacshooting.com
https://defoor-proformance-shooting.myshopify.com
https://www.aztectrainingservices.com

Panone's website no work at the moment, but he and the others are in SoCal on a regular basis....and all three of them have been at the tip of the spear for many years.
