Lightbulb Do you know all the S's of hunting?

safety = get safety training for guns and hunting and always think safety
shooting = hunting as opposed to fishing
season = make sure you are not hunting a bird or animal out of season
sign = traces, as footprints, of a wild animal, also, beware of NO HUNTING signs posted by landowners
scat = the excrement of an animal, may be sign of an animal
spoor = a track or trail, especially that of a wild animal pursued as game
scrapes = marks left by animals such as bucks
scent = stay upwind of the critter you are pursuing; also use to attract game
sounds = one can hear signs of nearby animals as vocalizations, one can attract some game animals and birds with man-made sound-making devices called GAME CALLS; animals have sharp hearing so walk very quietly, don't step on twigs and keep your mouth shut
sex = identify the sex of the bird or animal before taking where pertinent in game regulations
species = know what you're about to shoot before squeezing the trigger
stalk = to pursue (game, a person, etc.) stealthily
stand = a stationary place of a hunt
sight-in = make sure you do this to your rifle at a range just before the hunting season
sighthound = dog that pursues game by eyesight
scenthound = dog that pursues game by smell
slug = type of ammunition for shotguns
sling = a means of carrying a long gun afield, also, a means of steadying a rifle in the free-standing position
stealth = don't give yourself away to the animal or bird you are after
sporting = a group of dogs used in feather game as retrievers, setters, spaniels and pointers
sport = hunting is a sport, be ethical and follow the law always
snakes = beware of these poisonous reptiles during dove season
sector = stay within your sector of fire when hunting with partners
sense = use common sense, don't be a fool with a gun
stupidity = the main cause of so-called hunting accidents
shot = shotgun projectiles
shotgun = a long gun not a rifle
socks = keep at least one extra fresh, dry, clean pair on wet or long hunts
squirrel = know that the tree kind is regulated while the ground kind is vermin
snap-shooting = how deer are commonly engaged in Europe with a rifle and a special sight and in the American South with a shotgun by stationery hunters whose quarry is driven out of the thick with beaters and dogs
stag = the male of certain deer in Europe
snipe = certain game bird
stool = a low seat for dove hunters
Stone = species of American wild game sheep
silver (fox) = species of fox, no, incorrect ... but rather an American red fox in a color phase in which the fur is black with long silver-tipped hairs
skunk = not a nice critter for man with a gun or hunting dog to acquire the smell of
skunked = returning home with an empty game bag or an unused tag
squeeze = do this carefully to the trigger of a rifle so as not to miss but rather pull the trigger of a shotgun on a bird in flight smartly and follow through on the swing
swing = what a wingshooter does smoothly and methodically with his shotgun to lead a bird in flight and engage it, not suddenly hold still and aim while firing
skeet = a great way to practice shooting before the dove opener
skybusting = ethical wingshooters refrain from shooting at birds out of shotgun range or just firing center mass upon a flock of birds hoping to bring one or more down randomly: chose one bird in range and concentrate on only it

And used to mean shoot, shovel, shut up.

But now that those things are all heavily regulated Sandra Bullock has convinced me it's now

Mods please move this useless thread to the Hunting and Fishing forum where it probably doesn't belong either.
