Very nice. Couldn't just stop with one could you. The upper on your first build looks so much bigger and sutrdier then your new one. Could just be the color though also.

Is the SASS DPMS barrel only chambered in .308 or can it also fire 7.62Nato rounds?

Is this an issue with the lower receiver? Or is this a problem because you did not install a bolt catch?
The CMMG MK8 lower receiver is too wide to accept a bolt catch. G3 magazines in general are wider than AR308 magazines.

From what I've read, the .308win rounds shoots hotter than 7.62NATO. So therefore you can fire 7.62NATO on a .308win barrel and not the other way around.

+1. yep thats my understanding as well. That's why I am looking into the .308 barrel, probably the rainer arms 16" .308 barrel.

On the the actual DPMS SASS barrels, is there a stamped (or etched) marking of .308Win or 7.62NATO?

Depends if I can manage to get the gas block and gas tube installed.

Can't get the pins in the tube correctly.

After that, its only a matter of time before troy gets a MRF back in stock...

Here is another one of mine!

It's a Armalite Super SASS upper with adjustable gas block.
The lower is a Aero Precision with a PRS stock.

It is for sale as well!

I noticed some people are using PRS and UBR stocks. I have an extra PRS stock and I wanted to use for the build. Do I have to get a PRS stock specifically for an AR10?

BTW...I wished I didn't see this thread...all of your builds are awesome..and its making me want to build one..
I talked to someone from Magpul when I was ordering my PRS stock and they said if you have a PRS for an AR15 you can change out the cheek weld with the one designed for the 308 but since I was buying at that time I just got the one for the 308. It is just a little shorter to allow for the longer throw on the charging handle of the 308. Also, my lower is a POF which allows you to use an AR 15 lpk but that is the only lower I know of that you can do this with.

Places that stamp them 7.62 nato or whatever still test them to 308 win saami specs it's just a sales thing. There's only one rifle I know of in the entire world that is 7.62 nato but not safe with 308 win and that's some sort of Indian Ishapore Enfield somethingrather rifle.

edit: 762nato spec was like 53k PSI, SAAAMI spec is 58k psi I think. Like I said it's nothing to worry about with a modern firearm barrel.

I figured that but don't want to find out the hard way. I've heard horror stories about mini 14 barrels damaging by using 5.56NATO rounds and don't want to gamble that with a 7.62NATO barrel shooting .308WIN.

One crowd that would know about this are the FAL boys. Most of their barrels are 7.62X51mm barrels.

I always heard that a barrel chambered in a NATO round can shoot the commercial equivalent but not the other way around.

ARfiend, awesome .308 build. What kind of barrel (& length) and muzzle brake/compensator do you have on your setup?

It is a 20" DPMS heavy barrel with a Panther flash hider. I have a feeling that I am going to end up switching that upper out for a POF though. I went with the DPMS because it was only $715 but by the time I put everything else on it I realized I almost spent the amount that I was trying to avoid by not getting the gas piston POF from the beginning. Oh well, that just means when I do the swap someone will get an already built and broke in upper with all the bells and whistles

Bought it about 25 years ago. It's an original Portuguese model AR-10 parts kit on an H&H semi lower.Didn't mean to threadjack, thought you guys might like a real "old school" AR.

For 556 vs 223 that is true for 762nato vs 308 not so much. Like I said the 762nato part is a non-issue anyways.

FA lower, DPMS parts kit, ACE Socom stock +1" rubber, DPMS 18" lite contour upper, 3x9 Trij hanging in Burris XTR's. God I love this rifle. Wolff springs. Pmags FTW!!

Today: 10 rounds @ 100y/5-10mph side gusts/168 grainers. Two flyers, me, the trigger, the wind, the blast from the shooters on the next table, I am still pretty happy for a lightweight semi-auto 308.....this thing shoots like this or better every weekend....

The AR10 catch is holding the pmag in fine now. I just do not have my upper yet to make sure I am not getting any bolt overs, which was another issue I have seen with the combo of the CMMG lowers and the pmags.

I got mine here:

http://dsgarms.com/ProductInfo/ARMEA1108.aspx

or here:

http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=EA6080

For mine, the main difference in the two is the ar-10 catch bolt has a slight angle inward. This is what makes it work cause when you place it in the lower and screw it down, it forces the catch to go into the mag slot deeper. I do not have an upper yet but my pmag is locked in there very tightly now.

Default AR Pistol Grip with Palm shelf...

This is kind of off topic, but any members who posted their .308 components on this thread that uses a Pistiol Grip with the plam shelf, please check out this thread:
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...05#post6967105

It's a question about:
-DPMS Pistol Grip Panther Style
-Falcon Industries Ergo Tactical Deluxe with Palm Shelf

Thanks for viewing...
