Default 5.7 caliber rifles?

I'm looking for a 5.7 caliber rifle preferably that's not the p90 looking platform. Do any companies make a rifle in this caliber? Semi or bolt I dont mind.

Right off the bat I can only think of the Five Seven pistol, P90, PS90, and the AR57.

Yea I thought the round looked quite neat even though its somewhat hard to get. Either way I cant afford those platforms, the p90 stuff atleast. The ar57 one looked interesting, just found it tonight. I'm assuming they dont have a CA legal version right off the bat instead of having to purchase the lowers and uppers? I dont mind buying part by part but I prefer having just a regular ca legal version from the start.

If you can find a middleman to install the AR-57 Raddlock (my AR-57 build is featureless so I've never tried installing one, but it strikes me that any competent middleman could probably do it), you could just have the complete rifle shipped to the middleman for modification.

Here's a shot of it hanging out with my Five-Seven.

I bought the upper direct from 57center.com at their regular price (around $700) and built up the lower from standard parts with an A2 stock, Monster Man grip and am ambi safety selector; I'm not sure what the total damage was, but it almost definitely topped $1k (though not by too much) after I added in a set of iron sights.

Thats a pretty awesome rifle! The grip dont look bad at all actually. With a build topping that much I'd wonder if the 5.7 pistol is more practical to look into. The five seven is limited to 10 rounds like any other pistol right? I like the caliber just wish there were more platforms!

Why spend so much money on an AR upper in such an odd caliber?

If you're going to drop money on the caliber, get it in the weapon it was designed for, the PS-90 or FN 5-7 IMO.

You can get .223 much cheaper for ARs. And if you want a pistol caliber, get a 9mm upper. If you want low recoil, get a .22LR.

Last I looked, PS-90's were about 2k if they could be found in stock. The FN 5.7 is a wonderful handgun, while a rifle is what's wanted here.

That's a bad assumption.
The manufacturer had a sign up at the SHOT show stating that they will do CA legal versions.
All it takes is swapping out the mag release latch in the upper.

Plus there's a fair bit of DIY work needed with a PS-90 to either lock the magazine or remove all the evil features.

I'm not 21 so a pistol isnt in my options right now unless its that interfamily gift thing. Either way I'm looking for rifles.

Thank you guys so far with the suggestions! Some good options here. How much did the CA legal version go for? I'm not good with technical stuff so I just prefer buying stuff as complete as possible.

And yea I would have thought of other calibers but I already own way to many .223's.

a bolt gun in the 5.7 would prob make a sweet squirrel gun. A little bit hotter than a 22 mag.

Do they share a case head with any other popular cartridges?

I'm not sure about the dimensions, but I'm very interested in the caliber. Thanks for the support so far guys! Trying to find a dealer or vendor which sells the CA compliant Ar57 models.

Based on AR15barrels' comment about the manufacturer's sign at SHOT, you could probably start by contacting them directly.

Actually, 5.7x28 ammo has been available throughout most of the ammo crisis, and isn't hard to find at all now, at least the SS197 40gr Hornady V-Max tipped varmint/sporting rounds.

Your best bet is to get it online - typically you can find a case (2000) for ~$700-$750 shipped to your door, and boxes (50) as low as $17-$20. Locally a box will run $21-$25.

Get it by the case - you'll go through it quickly!

5.7 is really a .224" bore. Same as most 22 caliber center fire rifle. 5.7x28 case head is slight smaller than 221 Fireball case (.314" vs .378"). I'm wondering if a 221 Fireball gun can be rebarreled to shoot 5.7x28.

Originally I was thinking of using a 22Mag bolt action rifle to covert because their rim sizes are closer. But not sure the rimfire extractor of the 22Mag would work on the 5.7x28 rim.

Would having the 221 fireball converted by more expensive than just buying the whole new platform that shoots 5.7?
The conversion sounds pretty slick actually, semi or bolt I dont mind the method of operation.

No.
That's way too much difference.

Other than the AR57, weapons offered by FNH USA, you can get a T/C or make your own out of a short action Rem700 with parts from Midway. Those are the only options short of fabbing your own weapon.

I like the AR57 option, I own one and it is nice to be able to swap around between calibers. I would like to get one of the heavily fluted barrels that the have but when I spoke to them at ShotShow I was kind of left with the don't hold your breath feeling. Their barrels are currently made by ER Shaw, who seems to be in no hurry to crank out their other cooler barrels in quantities anytime soon, too bad.
