Default Romanian AK-47 Drum Magazine Disassembly

We recently got a Romanian military issue AK-47 drum in the shop for disassembly and can not figure out how to get the central wheel/spring assembly out without destroying the drum in the process.

Anyone have any resources or hints that could help? All the youtube videos and online written instructions stop short of removing the central assembly, and without removal of that part, this drum can still feed ammo and thus a no-go for shipment to CA.

Thanks...
-Mark

Once the spring tension is gone it won't feed. Button assembly and spindle are out it is good to ship.

Thanks for the link. Those look like the Korean mags we get in here all the time. The Romanian drums we have look more like this, and the internals are different from the Korean mags:

We are asking how to remove the button assembly and spindle. We would not be comfortable (legally speaking) shipping this with the spindle installed, even if the spring tension was relieved.

Sorry, I have no insight on the issue but thank you for asking for help instead of just saying "Sorry, can't ship". I and many other CA residents support your business for this kind of attitude.

They are top loaders right?

Directions should be

1. Put a flathead screwdriver in the knob on the back

2. Turn it 90 degrees and twist the knob.

3. Pull apart.

4. PM me a price

Glad to be of service. Hopefully the new federal bans get shot down quickly, the panic stops, and we can get back to shipping mag parts to California again.

Yep, these are top loaders and this is exactly where we are right now, but your instructions (like every you tube video we could find) stop short of telling us how to remove the spindle/wheel assembly from the housing. Until we can do that, this drum could still feed ammunition, and that's a show stopper...

I figured it out, though not the exact goal I was going for, it does render the drum incapable of feeding ammo...

I started by poking a small screwdriver into the hole on the front, and rotating that knurled knob until it popped out.

This released the knob, allowing me to pull off the winding lever and internal springs.

Now the center wheel turns but cannot engage the spring, so it can not feed ammunition.

Hmmm. The Romanian drums I have are exactly like the Chinese models, those look different.
