Default Gunsmith

Can anyone recommend a gunsmith in the SF Bay Area they would trust with heirloom rifles? They are not antiques, but they were my grandfathers. I need an extractor replaced on a Win. Model 94, and having issues with a Marlin .22

In Petaluma try Jim Ketchum at 707-762-3014.
Edited to fix the number.

What's the problem with the Marlin? If it is a Model 60, I did the nickle fix on mine when it had ejection issues.

Sorry, it's a savage. As soon as you pull the plunger back on the bolt, it releases and discharges on its own, at random.

The Winchester will not extract spent shells reliably. Sometimes it will begin to extract a shell and then release the rim of the case. It is clean, it's almost like its lost its spring tension. I wonder if it is from being stored for several years with the bolt fully foward? I noticed when stored this way the extractor is pushed outward slightly.

Theres a place called old west gun room in el cerrito I've never been there and don't know if they Smith there or not but I'm sure they can steer you in the right direction. But that old 94 is probably unsafe and I would be happy to dispose of it properly for you ha-ha
Good luck

It's not in the Bay Area but Jones Fort in Redding fixed a few of my lever actions in the past. Mine were 44 magnums and a 30-30. All were Winchesters.
