Loaning a shotgun to a relative
A relative is interested in purchasing a shotgun, but having limited experience does not really know where to start. I wanted to loan him two shotguns so he could take time with both a pump and semi to see what he liked and will fit his shooting needs (mostly clays, but perhaps will get into some hunting with it as well).
I live in California, as does my relative. Both have clean records. Can I loan them legally to my relative? I realize the ramifications related to any issues such as him using the gun for home defense against an intruder, etc., so don't need that info... just whether the loan is legal. Thanks in advance all. -<M>- |

You can legally loan him a firearm(s) for up to 30 days. [PC 27880] Penal Code 27880 Section 27545 does not apply to the loan of a firearm between persons who are personally known to each other, if all of the following requirements are satisfied: (a) The loan is infrequent, as defined in Section 16730. (b) The loan is for any lawful purpose. (c) The loan does not exceed 30 days in duration. (d) If the firearm is a handgun, the individual being loaned the handgun shall have a valid handgun safety certificate. |
