There is no statute that requires you to carry the permit (yeah, stupid, No?). However, the Sheriff's policy, Page 5, states:
Quote:
208.6 ISSUED FIREARMS PERMITS
In the event a license to carry a firearm is issued by the Sheriff, the following shall apply:[...]
(c) The license may be laminated, bearing a photograph of the licensee with the expiration date, type of firearm, restrictions and other pertinent information clearly visible.
1. Each license shall be numbered and clearly identify the licensee.
2. All licenses shall be subjected to inspection by the Sheriff or any law enforcement officer.
If you don't have your license with you, this can't happen.

If you are out of the car, and LEO want to know why you're carrying, they aren't going to be happy with the, "Let me go to my car," stuff. They really won't like it if you've had to shoot someone.

If you're in someone else's car/house/business (any place other than your car) you won't have your license. That could cause delays until the nice LEOs let you go about your business.

Of course, the Sheriff can always revoke based on the fact that you didn't allow inspection at the time....

Trim the laminate (don't cut the license or break the seal) and round the corners. Take everything out of the wallet and stuff the license in. If it's still to big, fold it and stuff it in...no one cares about how it looks until your gun goes off.

Is good enough reason if you live in a remote area of Kern with no substation?

Okay, so final numbers:
Got approval from Sheriff almost exactly 90 days after submitting application and got permit in hand just 4 days after finger printing.

When did you initially submit? I'm coming up on 90-ish in September.

What is Kern accepting for good cause these days? Is simple “Self Defense” or “Personal Protection” enough or do they want more?

How long did it take for them to assign your application to a processor? Also, did you file in person or online? I just filed on Saturday, so I'm curious.

I applied online and the website said "Assigning to processor shortly" for the entire three months that it took.
The next communication came via email and text just to say it was approved and how to proceed...

SD is good enough. You don't need someone to write it for you.

Anyone know the status of Kern County CCWs? How long does it usually take to get a response after submitting the application online? I don't see any recent updates from people getting approved. Thank you

Before the virus... When I first moved to Kern county from Chino in 2017 my first time Kern CCW took 36 days, My renewal, about a year ago, was complete in about 60 days. That was before Covid 19.

The 60 day timeframe will happen every time you renew, didn't the instructor teach that in your initial class?, that timeframe has nothing to do with covid 19

Default Still Waiting

I submitted my application on August 23, 2020, and I'm still patiently waiting for some type of response, preferably an approval. I know some have said it takes almost 90 days to the day so I am getting very close. Keeping my fingers crosssed.

Good luck!

Congrats. I got a call yesterday, questioning the serial number of one of my listed guns, so at least I know they are working on it. Hopefully, it won't be too much longer. I'd like to think I'm good since they are checking serial numbers now. I'm a little past the 4-month mark.

As an update. I started back in June. Early December I got the call to get my course done and documents ready. Mid December dropped off documents and did live scan. Currently waiting on call back.

I got an email after submitting the additional documents, the particular gun is registered in my husband's name so I needed to prove my marriage and I missed a digit with the serial number, they said in a few weeks or so I'll receive an email from a sergeant stating approved or denied.

Thanks. I was hoping it was the size of a driver's license.

4HR TRAINING CERTIFICATE from one of our approved firearm vendors.
 The 4HR training certificate is only good for 60 days; therefore, you can only take the
course 60 days prior to your CCW permit expiring. No sooner.
 Qualification Card – Must be submitted for every gun listed on your permit.

Still waiting for that call and/or email. I guess technically it could another week as they put it, "a few weeks or so."

I heard from KCSO tonight. Yes, tonight, I received a text and email indicating I have passed this portion of the application and I need to take the class and do my fingerprints.
