Default Whatís your SHTF 3 weapon combo?

Hey everyone I know this topic gets talked about a lot but I thought it would be fun to share what my wife and Iís set up is if we have to walk into the post apocalyptic waste land.

For me itís a Ruger gp100 in 357 on the belt plus double speed loader pouch, a Mossberg 500 12ga and an Ontario machete.

For the wife itís a Smith 686 in 357 on the belt plus double speed loader pouch, a Henry Big Boy 357 and a Buck 119.

Each carry 100 rounds of .357 and I carry 30 00 buck shells and 20 slugs.

Whatís your set up?

Your third weapon would be a machete? At least someone in the family has some brains as your wife brought 3 guns!

Keep in mind I live in California; so no hi-cap mags (otherwise the Scout would be an LWRC 5.56):

1) Sig P220 .45
2) Benelli M4
3) Ruger Scout .308

I don't have a "set-up" but if I had to go outside for something important.. Two SA handguns with extra mags and a fixed blade heavy duty knife. All concealed so I don't present myself as a more desirable target because I've got a long gun slung.

I can run, climb and move quicker. I'm not looking to engage I just want to get that valuable roll of toilet paper and return home.

According to The Book of Eli...
Sawed off Remington 870, HK pistol and a machete. +1
Home made bow and arrow for harvesting cat. The other white meat.

Machete can be a tool of discouragement if used properly.

The idea really comes down to - pick three defensive tools that you would choose if they were likely to be the last ones you ever had, or your 'forever guns.'. Its interesting because I went through the same decision process when I had to temporarily give up the hobby side of firearm ownership and needed to choose a small collection of the most practical, useful items. I considered longevity, reliability, cost to replace, availability of parts and ammo, and practical application. That seems very similar to what a person might consider for their 'shtf combo.'

Anyway, my 3:

Glock 9mm
Mossberg 12g
Arsenal x39

My 3 weapon combo would be a .357 Lever Rifle, .357 SW 4" wheel gun, and a machete.

IWI Tavor with YHM Titanium QD suppressor, TA31f ACOG, Steiner D-Bal, Surefire M952 white/IR illuminator to run with my PVS-14

Glock 17 with RMR & TiRant suppressor

Ruger Mk3 22/45 suppressed for filling the stew pot, etc.

I use these regularly they would be my SHTF go to, although my Sig 716(Gen2) patrol would have to come to any party where distance is involved.

I thought about my Steyr Scout, but slow rate of fire and heavy ammo make it less attractive than the Tavor.

Mehh, I don't know.

Earthquake/flood a full size on my CCW,LE may still be about and not gearing up for battle. Just want to be able to protect myself.

Total meltdown, Maybe the SCAR and the full size. It's light, folds small, etc. Ammo kinda heavy. Guess it depends if I'm going somewhere or just going out for water. Walking/driving/bike. Walking or bike just the 2. Driving I'd take a SG and a 22(I get an extra cause I only took 2 on the bike ).

I like the idea of a lever action rifle. You could shoot and never go dry and they are light for a rifle. I also think a G17/19 would be perfect. I think adding a 3 weapon system gets bulky, maybe I would go for a 1911 (also in 9mm) in a thigh rigs in case the other 2 go dry or go down.

1. Glock 9mm
2. Lever Action 357, 44 or 45LC
3. 1911/9mm

I keep a glock, a rifle and a shotgun next to my bed just in case someone breaks into my house in the middle of the night and wants to play a 3 gun match

I do not keep a static list. It depends upon the situation. Are we going scavenging? Or, are we leaving home for parts unknown? Is it a full day walk to town? Why are we walking instead of riding or driving?

My standard kit for general missions in the area is a pistol with five mags, body armor, a fixed blade and a rifle. I keep a concealed BUG and a concealed folding knife. Ammo is based upon the light infantry concept, which is three (7.62) or four (5.56) mags on the plate carrier, one in the gun, and two to four on the belt. Two pistol mags go on each belt and carrier. Belt holds additional gear such as a medkit and so forth.

Hunting with the AR-10 is easier since one long gun is carried. A good bolt action rifle would work and the Scout rifle concept seems to be the most useful for both hunting and any accidental “social work” that may occur. I prefer a good semiauto but wouldn’t worry if all I had was a Scout rifle. If I were hunting bad humans, then I would go for an AR-15 and as much ammo as I can carry (12 mags or so) with spares nearby.

Handguns are very personal items, but I certainly prefer capacity to caliber except in certain situations. I personally like 45 ACP best, but the practical side of me tells me to choose capacity if there is a possiblity of fighting with humans. 9x19mm with quality JHP ammo is fine for humans. It is capable of killing animals but not quickly like a rifle. A good 44 Magnum revolver is fine for situations where a long gun cannot be carried. I still prefer semiauto over revolvers (shoot the FIVE YARD ROUNDUP with both platforms and you will see what I mean). In all cases, a small BUG and folding knife are mandatory.
