Water testing kit for bacteria
Pretty new, and currently limited to e. coli, but may become better in the near future.

Cool but this Foldable Microscope invented at Stanford University is probably more useful in the near term & also very easy on space requirements:
Giardia can be seen starting at around 40x magnification and this kit offers 140x. Might be a good idea to also pack some picture examples of parasites/bacteria you can reference in the field.

This thing seems likely to approach SKS-like utility - no technical training required. But we'll have to see how the idea develops.

What are some of the most commonly used kits today . I stored water about a year ago with no additives and wanted to test it . I'm pretty new to this prepping thing and long term water storage is my biggest concern .
I do have multiple filter types from Large Katadyn systems to life straws but still want something I can buy and store to test stored water before use .

Fluorgenic, so you will still need an illuminator, filter set and reader...can't imagine that's gonna be less than a couple o hundred bucks..
Still nice science; will read the article when I get home. Nature is still only 99 bucks a year, if you get their deal. Great journal. |
