Default Time for a new Desktop - Care to share your input

Like others... it's getting to be time for a new PC... This box is 5+ years old...

I had 2 Beeping attacks followed by shut down. I was not able to count the beeps so I'm not sure what hardware is failing...

I was looking at a basic PC and I'd prefer to stay with at least 8GB if not GB ram

I don't game on the PC... PC will be hard wired... so the built in WIFI will be turned off

Word / Excel/ Email... cal guns obviously...

Choice #1 that might be overkill
$850

This would be the cheap option @ $479

10th Gen Intel® Core™ i5-10400 processor(6-Core, 12M Cache, 2.9GHz to 4.3GHz)
Windows 10 Home English
Graphics Card Intel® UHD Graphics 630 with shared graphics memory
Hard Drive
256GB M.2 PCIe NVMe Solid State Drive
Memoryi
8GB, 8Gx1, DDR4, 2666MHz

I already have a 1TB and 4 TB drives of data and such... I would swap those drives into the new device...

What are your thoughts? no need to spend an extra $500 if I wont use it...

If you can wait, Dell will put that rig on sale as we get closer to the holidays (maybe$399). I've been very happy with my $299 i3 desktop I purchased from them in May.

Better, in my view, to just build your own. This way you know you're getting good components. I haven't bought a pre-made PC in quite a few years. Got one using an AMD Ryzen 3200U and another with an Intel 10100. Both have plenty of DRAM and M.2 NVMe storage. Both boxes are pretty darn fast, with just a slight nod to the Ryzen. But the Intel CPU also gets the job done.

BTW, I'd suggest 16GB DRAM these days. No need to skimp on memory.

Oh, and you might consider Ubuntu with LibreOffice vs. Microsoft if you're doing basic office-productivity. No "activation keys", no subscription nonsense, no forced upgrades, no spyware, none of that.

No gaming..
Basic usage.
Yeah, the cheaper one will serve perfectly.
No reason to spend more on a laptop which won't be used as a laptop.

Might want to wait, if prices are still high...

My work was just pitching M700 i5 Lenovo Mini Desktops with 8GB of RAM, and 128GB m.2 SSDs, before the 'Rona.

Used Desktop:
https://www.ebay.com/itm/324790346787
$569 Lenovo ThinkCentre Tiny Desktop i7-8700T 8th Gen 2.4GHz 16GB RAM 256GB SSD W10P M720q
Still in demand, it seems at this price.

I use one of these on my desk at work, when I have to go in, but w/a little more RAM, and it keeps up with me, mostly...

These go for $945 new, but with a 1TB, and only 8GB of RAM, on CDW:

Lenovo has an outlet website. Picked up a Thinkcentre M720 SFF with win pro for 535. Outstanding reliability. We have Thincentre PCs running for over 6 years with zero problems. This one has only 8gb ram but ram upgrades are reasonably priced. The Tinys are nice too.
