Default Shotgun ammo for Pala 3 gun?

My friend and I are going to do this but I am unable to get info on what type of shotgun ammo to buy. Want to stock up before the 1/1/18 BS starts.

I emailed a guy who had YT videos up but no response so far.

Any one help? Slug/7.5/birdshot? I have no clue except that it depends mostly on how the course is set. So don't offer that.

What would be a decent variety for a beginner?

Thanks.

I have a Mossberg 500 field style 12ga. If we get into it probably will get a Mossy 930 tactical (Jerry Micluck sp.) signature.

How much SG ammo do you shoot up in a day? I know it depends on how accurate... so just give me a ballpark. I figure I'll buy 2-3 years worth.

OMG you are only starting to stock up now?

For a typical Pala match 60-75 bird shot, 3-5 slugs (sometimes none), and maybe 3 buckshot (for spinners).

This is a typical minimum. If you miss, you will of course shoot more. I bring at a minimum 150 bird, 25 slugs and 10 buckshot.

Problem of doing it now is that slugs will vary from shotgun to shotgun. Some low recoil won't fully function in a given shotgun. Shooting full power slugs hurts. Etc.

Bird shot shells are also the same thing. Maybe 1100 fps will work in your gun. Maybe they won't.

You don't have a lot of time. A lot of out of state vendors are saying the 24th is the drop dead date for ordering from them.

froggy47,

60-80 rounds of birdshot. Get Standard 3-dram #7 1/2 or #8 size bird shot that is 1 1/8 oz. Try the standard Federal target load in the 100 round box from Walmart. Don't buy bulk until you try it. I bought a case of Remington target load ammo a while ago and the quality of Remington has gone down hill over the past year or two. Half the Remington ammo will fail to fire in several different shot guns. This is clearly not the stuff to stock up on. The best deal I stock up on are the Herters from Cabelas. #7-1/2 size 1-1/8oz.

There is usually between 2 to 6 slug shots every match. If you have 2 slugs you typically put 3 or maybe 4 in the gun and either jack out what you don't need or else burn them at the target. That means you could use anywhere from 3 to 10 slugs per match.

Rifle ammo is usually 80 to 100 rounds. 55gr is good for paper and steel out to 200 to 250 yards. When there is wind it's better to have something slightly heavier like 69gr or 77gr. The heavier bullet will drift less in the wind.

Pistol is usually 60 to 100 rounds. The higher round count usually occurs because there's a spinner that some people with 9mm may have trouble getting to spin - and end up dumping a couple mags on it.

Thanks sir, I am too short on time to test fire much. Ran a lot of different ammo thru the AR's with no issue. Same with my Springfield .45, like everything. The Mossy 500 should, I hope, not be fussy. Bought 2k rounds of Rio, on the way.

I am trying to stock 2-4 years worth as the %$@#&%$$*%()^ in Sacramento continue to play games.

See you guys out there soon I hope, bad fire tonight, feel bad for the folks in it's way, best of luck, go firefighters!
