Default Any other single ladies have trouble finding shooting partners?

So I am a single gal into guns and I like shooting with others. I am particularly into long range precision and have put out several calls to find someone to go shooting with. Unfortunately nothing has come of it. What is especially frustrating is that I will meet a guy at the range and have a good time chatting and once the suggestion of shooting together comes up, NOPE, can't. Why? Because he is married and just merely going shooting with a single female somehow magically puts his marriage at risk, even though it is strictly a platonic and non-romantic activity.

So I have to ask, are there any other ladies out there that have trouble finding shooting buddies? If you don't have any trouble finding shooting friends, any advice you can give? It's quite lonely always hitting the range all by myself all the time.

Where are you located? If you are in socal the zombie shoot held twice a year is a great event where you will meet a lot of people, both single and married. They also have a long range station setup, usually 800+ yards.

MJB is right in that some guys may have tighter leashes or could even be intimidated. I'm one of the lucky ones where my wife and I don't have that kind of relationship, and I will take women shooting quite often, usually to get them comfortable with firearms at their husbands request. Like MJB said, go to the community activities, there are lots of great guys, and gals, on this board.

*edit* I just realized this was in the ladies forum, i apologize in advance if you were only looking for a female perspective.

I am not on a tight leash or intimidated, but I DO have trouble being friends with a woman.

It isn't a sexist thing....more like a sexual tension thing even if it isn't reciprocated, I don't want to hang out with somebody who I might be attracted to and keep it platonic. Maybe I have a high sex drive.....I don't know. But I like being married and don't want to put myself into a situation were I might be inadvertantly tempted.

Hope you find somebody to shoot with.

Why do you need a "partner" to go shoot with? Just go shoot.

I'm also a single woman who shoots every week. I don't have a shooting partner - guess I never thought about looking for one. As doggie suggested, I just go & enjoy.

I would imagine finding a shooting partner would be tough though & part of it is the marriage thing you mentioned. However, if you think about it, very few of the guys have shooting partners. Most of them show up alone & shoot the breeze with who ever happens to be there at the time. They don't really seem to have a shooting partner mindset.

I shoot at a small rural range where everyone is pretty friendly, so shooting alone or being lonely isn't really an issue.

Don't know where you are located - I'm in SoCal - I'll pm my location.

You can find shooting buddies at THE WELL ARMED WOMEN (Riverside) and A GIRL AND A GUN (Vista and San Diego) events...

Thanks everyone, but I am in the San Francisco Bay Area so a lot of the suggestions just are not feasible.

Suggestions to "just go out and shoot" just don't work for the sentiment of this thread. This also isn't a thread to discuss tight leashes for the hubbies out there.

I would suggest exploring other shooting venues. My impression is the long range rifle venue is much smaller population than the pistol group.

Depending where you are in the "SF Bay Area" there is a Monday Night Shooting League in Santa Clara at "Reeds". Plenty of folks there to meet.

Or use E-Harmony, and don't be shy about mentioning shooting sports as a hobby. It will quickly get noticed.

Have you thought about joining a club or competing at matches? Those are two great ways to network with other like minded shooters.

It is fun to have a friend to shoot with. I have one friend who I shoot with but with her work schedule (Pilot) we only go once or twice per month. I shoot by myself more often than not.

Well I have a hard time finding guys to shoot with and I'm a guy so, I get it. Haha, I think it sore the logistics of guys getting time to shoot and setting the time aside. For me it's always a battle of beach, range or golf course. It really depends on what is going on and I prioritize accordingly.

Anyways long story short, hit a couple appleseed events, find a rod & gun club with events and I'm sure there will be some men secure enough in their marriage and even some women to join you.

You may want to invite the wife along too... Might put some of the "tension" at ease.

I really sympathize. My range buddy of five years and bestie, ElDub1950, just retired and moved out of state. I miss him. Shooting with him was an EVENT. We'd meet up at Sac Valley, hang out, shoot, talk guns and chat for a couple hours and then go have lunch somewhere. If the weather wasn't good for shooting, we'd go to a movie and lunch instead.

Some people have trouble with having friends of the other gender. I never have and ElDub didn't seem to either. I'm at the stage of my life (older than dirt) where I'd rather have a good FRIEND than a boyfriend anyway. (Guys my age seem only to want a cook, housekeeper or nurse. None of which is my idea of fun...)

When I decided I wanted a shooting buddy, I made a thread in the Calguns Sacramento Forum. I told where and when I'd like to shoot, what I'd like to shoot and that I was NOT a morning person. ElDub popped right up and it was rock 'n roll from there.

I think it's MUCH more fun to meet up with someone and go shoot, rather than standing around alone blasting away. At least half of what I know about shooting I learned from ElDub...

If you want a woman shooting buddy, join one of the several women's shooting clubs people have mentioned above.

If you want to shoot with someone of either gender who shoots at your favorite range, go to the Calguns Area Forum http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/f...play.php?f=183 for your location, start a thread asking people to PM you if they're interested and see what happens.

Meet INSIDE the range. Tell the RSO you are meeting someone new and would she keep an eye on you for a while. And see what happens. It's just like a blind date, except with guns and without groping....

I don't have anything bad to say about them, but so far the interactions I have had with them haven't been positive.
