Another fun range outing with great friends. Ten shot group at 100 yards using Federal SMK 168gr on my AR308.

This is my wife's target from the WOT in San Diego last month, not bad for her first time with a rifle.

It's a keeper . price was reasonable too . I thought it was going to be killer loud barrel being short n all . but its manageable.( still get eye balled from neighbors tho) I have JP cooleny compensator on my 16" and JP seems bit louder and side blast too . as for the muzzle rise , it made it bit softer than a2 cage .

Best group of the day... about 2" with my AR at 100 yards. Sadly, I average around 3.5" with this mil-spec 5.56. Anybody have similar results?

Custom built AR308 (20" BHW barrel), 100y, 150gr Federal American Eagle FMJ. This was shot on a normal Harris bipod with a cheap rear bag, nothing fancy as far as rests go.

My normal group size was more like 1-1.25 MOA. Still not bad for a FNG with a home-built rifle.

Here's a pic of the rifle:

BCM 18 inch 1/8 twist SS barrel
Doublestar lower
RRA Two Stage Match Trigger
Leatherwood/Hi Lux CMR

Shot from the bench with Atlas bipod and Red Tac Gear rear bag. Shooting wouldn't be shooting without flyers! haha..

I know three shot groups are discouraged, but this was a load tester at 100 yards, then immediately moved to distance (300+).

Just in case anyone is curious:

SPS-V .308
45.0gr Varget
168gr SMK
Assorted Winchester/Remington once fired brass I've been collecting after firing cheap stuff
Winchester LR primers
Loaded at absolute mag length
Unknown FPS, assuming somewhere around 2700.
All loaded with a lee classic hand loader (i.e. one round per time with a hammer haha)
I know my reloading habits may seem crass, but hey, they work

And for fun, 550 Yards at Oroville 5 Shots 5 Hits center mass between the shoulder blades

Love tight groups, but does it bug anyone else when those groups are anywhere but on the bullseye?

last weekend. 50 yards, rested, 16" S&W M&P 15 Sport, Simmons 3-9x scope, 55gr Hornady softpoints, 26 grains of CFE 223, Federal brass. Yes, I realize I shot nowhere near the bullseye, but my wife already shot the middle of the target up and I was just maximizing use of the target.

Default 550 Yards

Stock Remington PSS
26" barrel (soon to be cut to 18-20)
Leupold vari-x III 4.5-14 mildot scope
Winds that gusted every which way from 0-probably 40 mph
Just three hits out of 40 rounds (other two are from 5.56)
Still can't believe I suck that bad after hitting tiny groups consistently at 600 yards at the range, but with those kinds of winds it's like there's a troll standing downrange catching the bullets and throwing them every which way. Sometimes the shots were close, mostly they were off by as much as almost a yard. (Hmmm... better check to see if the scope is loose. )

For you guys that have ARs, come and shoot with us at a 3 gun match. There is everything from up close shooting to long range stages hitting reactive steel targets at 300-400 yards.

You know of any clubs/competitions close to LA? Last time I looked the closest one I could find was out in San Berdoo.

Finally got to test the mossberg MVP out and am pretty impressed. For a $479 gun with a cheap 6-24 scope, it did really well. There was a guy next to me with a nice Rem 700 with about $2500 into it and couldn't shoot it any better than 2.5" or so at 100 yards.

This group was a 3 shot with BVAC reloads and a 55gr Hornady VMAX bullet. 10-15mph crosswind and about 65* or so.

PMC 55gr FMJ at the same range, time, wind, etc

And last but not least a 6 shot group of Black Hills 55gr PSP. Same info as above

And the gun that did all the shooting.

As a side note, Federal XM193 did really well, but Centurion M193 didn't shoot better than 3" or so groups. Its amazing how much a difference ammo can make.

Piru has X3 Multigun, USPSA, IDPA, and Steel Challenge. Its not that far from LA, just go up towards majic mountain.

They put on one of the best 3 gun matches around.

Southwest Pistol Leage aka SWPL puts on monthly USPSA pistol matches
They are out by where the 210 meets the 118

Me. Three shot groups are another thing that bug me.

This is a 20 shot group from 100 yards from my Remington 700 after the brand new .260 barrel and no load development:

142smk, 42.5gr H4350, Remington .260 brass, CCI primer. The lowest two shots are sighters

Here is the rifle

So I took my old Colt Hbar elite (24" barrel version using 12x magnification on cheapo NcStar 6-24x50 scope, stock colt trigger) out today. I've had this rifle for over 15 years. This is using some decent ammo, I usually shoot 5 round groups but did 3 round groups since I only had a box of ammo for testing. Next time around i'll stick to 5.

So today I started out with wolf ammo and got around the usual groups:

I then gave her a little cleaning (bore snake and lube) and used good ammo for a change. I used some Ultramax 68gr hollow points and here's the results:

3 shot groups of .25" to .4"....very pleased with the old girl, I guess I've to start showing her some love by giving her a nice trigger and feeding her the good stuff from now on. I only had one box of this stuff but every group was in this range.

Romy G AKM on NDS-3 receiver, Iron sights, 50 yds, Wolf fmj, Metcalf range SJ. I'll try 5 shot groups later. I just purchased a sight tool and this was the result after making adjustments.

PTR91 GI, brand new right out of the case.
20 rds @ 25 yds, indoor range, iron sights, unsighted, standing

Thought I did okay, having just finished two rounds of trap.
