Default The fishing was so great yesterday... *** UPDATED WITH PICTURES ***

that we're having spaghetti for dinner tonight

The good news is I didn't puke, and I had plenty of time to practice tying my knots. The bad news is I never got a chance to see if they held up, BECAUSE I GOT NO FISH.

55 people all fighting for the same real estate on the back rail.

Pictures up later.

Those boats are a joke.

Sorry you got skunked, people suck when it comes to sharing the best fish area on the boat...& that's why I won't do it, you have to be a huge A**HOLE (most times) to get some fish..that's just not for me.

I get enough sucky people daily, & don't relish being stuck in a boat with them.

Sorry, that sucks. You need some friends with boats so you don’t have to go the party boat route. I hate that competition as well; it does not bring out the best in most people....

Funny how the only pictures you see from those trips in WON or internet boards like Bloody Decks are he glory shots of the guys that got fish.

I think it would be funny to see the photos of the other 90% of the time. Guys puking over the rail, tangled lines, irritated deckhands, the fight for prime spots at the rail, and the tally for beers at the end. Probably wouldn’t sell too many charters...

Last weekend I fished for 12 hours over 2 days at big bear lake and did not get a bite my bro got 1 fish. First time in 55 years I have not caught a fish there. We trolled and still fished. Putting my boat in Marina Del Rey midweek to try for halibut and rockfish.

Big Bear has been a fickle beast the last few seasons. Been going consistently for last 25 years and have always had action. Easter before last we were skunked, 4 guys over 30 hours of fishing. Last year we limited in an hour on the second day, and this year was a 3 fish average per person.

Sucks for the slow trip YSR. Hopefully you had a tasty burger. Been tough fishing for most Anglers with the boats targeting the BFT mostly. Best bet for success is to watch the fish counts closely, along with weather, and hop on it when the action picks up.

best bet is on the slide, but bait selection and other things factor in as well.

i get sick of fighting newbs on the slide and avoid it unless that's the only place anyone is hooking up.

Agreed, went on the San Diego with my wife because she still works, I'm retired.

The deck hands were very helpful. Baited my wife's hook, untangled birds nests, scrubbed the boat.

It's not that there were too many people, it's that there weren't enough fish

55 is too many on that boat. No bunks and no room on deck for gear. I love fishing with Booger but damn 35 is almost too many on that boat.

Look on the bright side. Imagine a crowded boat like that hooking up a few zig zagging dorado, with too many not skilled in following their fish down the rail and tangle party deluxe guaranteed to ensue.

Here's a 3 fish tangle on some YFT, my rod in the middle a few seasons ago. I did get the fish to gaff.

Time for heavy thumb, a quick zip, and dance on down the rail. That’s if the other guys were donkeys. If it was a crap happens situation then calm nerves help the deck hands sort it out. I swear it’s as if most people’s IQ drops to 40% of normal on a cattle boat. No matter how many times a captain gives directions, crew reiterate, or I tell people where I need to go and what they need to do you just end up with donkeys.

Keep your line straight out in front of you, perpendicular to the rail. If it looks like you’re crossing vectors with the guy next to you, switch spots. Can’t tell if you’re over or under? Bring the rod tips close together. Make sure you feel your bait. Don’t just let the current, swell, and boat rock strip line out.

Fished the San Diego once. Never again (don't like the crowds.)

On another note, I ended up with the JP fish last Friday -- 80# BFT on a Flat Fall from the Relentless...

Glad your having a good time. I think your still a little early for the main part of the fishing frenzy. Keep watching the fish counts and jump on a boat when they start catching fish by the hundreds per boat.
