Default Appleseed Patched Riflemen – Roll Call

Hi Everyone

I am wondering how many Riflemen are out there. I was at the Appleseed Corona shoot Dec 4th and 5th and scored 5 AQT’s over 210 securing my Riflemen patches.
For me the clincher was trusting the NPOA once I secured that and set up a solid shooting position I just followed my Riflemen’s cadence through a passing score.

12/5/10
Riflemen’s Patch
AQT = 228

Got the patch in November!

I put some quality practice time in on shooting the AQTs before the Appleseed on my "Hillbilly home liberty training rifle"

Worked like a charm!

It's the budget creedmore jacket w/ "sling hook sewn on" option

It looks funny because I'm a lefty

http://www.creedmoorsports.com/store...cat=249&page=1

Best $95 I've spent in a long time

I've also got the TIC quick cuff sling

The cuff stays on your arm and you just click into the sling for prone

Look again -- we have one in Piru next week, another the following week in Corona. There's also simultaneous shoots at both plus Angeles and Burro for the big April 17-18 weekend.

Go here: http://appleseedinfo.org/search-stat...ame=California

You should see seven LA-area shoots for June and July.

Thank you - that June 18th in ASR looks like a winner to me. Do you suggest something like a 308 or can I use .22lr? you guys rock, thank you.

You can use almost whatever you want... but keep in mind we go through 450-700 rounds in a weekend, and it gets expensive. I recommend you start with .22LR, bring your heavy rifle for a backup or in case you make a Rifleman score with the .22 and have some time left.

You can sign up at the door, however space is not guaranteed, and it's $10 more. It's best to sign up in advance if you can.

Would a slip over type sling work ok? I have a savage 64 that I feel really accurate with but there are no native sling mounts, do you think an improvised or slip over style sling work?

Not ideal, but it can work.

As a field expedient, we frequently make "swivels" by running zip ties around the barrel.

The front attachment is more critical than the rear.

Didn't make rifleman today. I did manage to pull off a 185 though with a tube fed Marlin .22 with a $10 3x15 Tasco scope that's older than me.

Hopefully, at the next one...... Sigh..........

P.S. Peter provided me with a coupon code (NWC21010) worth $10 for any Calgunner or their family that wants to register. If you are going to register multiple participants, and want to get $10 off each one, register each person individually. Ladies are only $10 and if they use the coupon code their completely free. So grab you .22 rifle, a $10 box of Ammo from Walmart, and head on out.

Well 2 of us have registered for the September 24-25 Shoot in Escondido!!! This will be a first appleseed for me and my buddy. I am planning on bringing my AR .22LR with a single point sling.

My shooting partner doesn't know what he should bring. What are your suggestions with what he has, .22 mink, .20ppc, .17 havalina? he is a reloader so he will make his ammo for the weekend. should he reload 700 rounds like i saw in a previous post?

Any suggestions would be great. Thanks in advance

PS Not trying to thread jack just haven't found any threads about the San Diego County Appleseed yet.

Not yet, but I am registered with my girlfriend for the 08/13 event in Piru. Unfortunately, we'll only be able to do the one day since we have another commitment on Sunday. Hopefully, I can get through one or two AQTs on Day 1 to knock this out.

You'll go through about 500rnd over the two days, so I recommend you bring whatever you can afford.

If you only have highpowered rifles, they'll even loan you a .22lr for loan if you prefer to save some money.

It is recommended that you have a two point sling, but they'll have some for purchase ($10) and/or loan if you don't have one. They teach the foundations for using a sling in Hasty Hasty, Hasty, Loop for supported shooting positions. Although, a single point and other tactical type slings are good for tactical situations, they don't provide much support for long range shots.

If you checkout the Appleseed website, where you registered there are some suggestions on what to bring for the event.

You'll have a great time, and even learn a little bit of history during lunch!

My son and I earned ours at Lake Piru with stock 10-22's except for adding military style iron sights. At least that session, no one relying on scopes earned their badge.

Listen, learn, apply, score. We need to go back.

Had a 197 last weekend in Corona. Was a really fun weekend. I'm hoping I will be able to attend another soon. I wanted my wife to come next time, but I think the Rahaagues dust bowl scared her off.

Burro Canyons a dust bowl when the wind picks up also, but not as bad. It does have less hard rocks on the ground where you shoot though. I think any outdoor range in socal you find will be a little dusty but Rahaagues is the worst.
