Default 223 ammo

Just looked at the Midway site. All their 223 is out of stock no backorder even the stuff that's $35 for a box of 20. I saw a report that the Tuscon gun show price for 223 averaged over $1 per round. It's nearly cheaper to shoot my M1 than an AR.

You may be ok picking up the equiptment right now...componenets are scarce. I talked to Midway USA about an order and the guy on the phone said they had over 10,000 orders waiting for them when they got back to work on Dec 26th. Powder and primers went fast...

I'm buying when I see it in stock (and it's in stock for less than a day). I'm generally buying brass-cased 55 gr. FMJ's for practice. I pick up expensive ammo (PDX Defender at over $1 per round, for example) for defense/SHTF, and I'm stocking up slowly. I recently bought 1,000 rounds Federal FMJ for about $0.35 per round. This weekend at Big 5 I got 100 rounds for about $0.60 per. It still shows up for short periods of time at gun stores, Big 5, and Walmart. I buy it when they got it. My Mini14 will eat anything, so I'll still buy cheap steel-cased stuff when I have to.

I couldn't find good .38 SPL ammo to save my life, even while visiting Cabela's in Phoenix; only some crappy stuff on the shelves. Just yesterday WalMart had just shelved 10 boxes of .38. The guy in front of me bought 5 boxes, and I bought 5 boxes. On the shelf for less than an hour and it was all gone.

Product is still trickling in.

Too be honest I'm kind of resistant to going to the range and shooting off a lot of 223s. Is that silly. I have a bunch of ammo and haven't needed to buy for awhile. Now no one has any.

My friend finished his AR in early December, and now he can not find ammo. I picked up reloading supplies ... even tho I do not shoot 223. It is just about the only way for him to get ammo. Even now, I can not find bullets/primers.

I got into reloading many years ago for accuracy reasons, not for savings. When shortages come up like this its nice to have the supplies to load my own cheap 223. I buy a lot of pulled M855 bullets or even new pre-colored steel core bullets for very cheap. Only takes me a few hours to load 1000 rounds for the next days shoot.

If you have not started reloading its worth the $100 to get a simple Lee kit and start learning the basics.

A few months ago I picked up 1k 223 at like .30 per round. At the time I debated buying more but didn't have the up front $$. Looking back, I should have used a credit card and bought at least 2k, since there is none available now, and looks to be unavailable for the foreseeable future.

I am glad I have a fair amount of 'strategic reserve' .223 but I am priced out of this market and will not be going shooting anytime soon in order to conserve what I have.

Just placed a back order of PMC Bronze at Cabales. 8.99 a box with 5 buck shipping on orders over $100. ETA is 2/23. Not too bad of a price I guess.

I see Desert Ordinance has 55 gr for $420/1K and 62 gr for $500/1K. I have no idea if this is accurate...but it shows available in their on-line store.

FYI, midway is also out of stock and not backordering on the Hornday Lock n Load Progressive Press and many of the components needed for different popular calibers. Powder Valley is out on a lot of the bullets and powders. And good luck finding primers even at places like Sac Valley.

Firearmageddon has reach all the way down to the reloading.

I'm getting tired of these panic buys, I understood the pre '08 up of sales in general but it's starting to bug me. I enjoy the thought of the GS and basic trainers selling their skills in the furture "How to clean your gun 101"

Switched to .22lr for now for my weekly trigger time. Holding off on shooting centerfire ammo for a bit until supplies start to re-emerge. Just saw on the news today about a proposed ammo bill for Ca. restricting large quantity purchases, registering ammo etc. Some gal out of Berzerkely. They're going after the rounds now boys. I normally don't even watch the propoganda spinners, but happened to catch it at lunch today.

They don't say anything at all what this stuff is or who makes it. I need to at least know this first before buying.

I dug out some ammo in long-term storage over the weekend. Bought most of it in the late 80s.

3300 rounds of 5.56 -.223 of which (I had to google this) 1200 rounds are Canadian Military ivi C-77 with the nato cross on the headstamp , 62 grain steel core, copper jacket stuff that goes 3,000 FPS and is supposed to go thru barriers a bit better than most. In these weird plastic stripper clips of 10 rounds each, 600 rounds to a green metal ammo box. The rest is American Eagle 223, plastic wrapped.

2300 rounds of 7.62 X 39 steel case

560 rounds of 7.62 X 51 (308)

10,000 of CCI Mini Mag .22

500 rounds of .22 stinger.

Must have bought this stuff over several gun shows back in the day. I totally forgot about this stuff.

You can never have too much ammo.

Looks like US armorment has 500 rounds of MK 318 Mod0 for $420 right now. Bought 500 rounds for $399 a couple of weeks ago......looks like the price is rising.........not bad, considering the circumstances.

i dont get it...223 ammo isnt going anywhere...even IF some sort of ban goes through they're focusing on semi autos...lots of bolt guns run 223, the round isnt going to disappear...granted i always have my reserve, but people are freaking out a bit too much...by all means go buy up all the mags and guns...ammo aint goin anywhere any time soon

Don't be too smug. The govt can cut off ammo imports with the stroke of a pen. Where would you be with no Russian ammo? Slick Willie cut off Chinese ammo years ago with the snap of his fingers.
