Default Non Traditional AK's (Not for Purist & wood people).

Yes, wood people, always come out of the woodwork when someone mentions in modifying an AK.
I like AK platform but dislike it's crude ergonomics and lack of versatility. I prefer a rifle that's useful for various tasks- be adaptable/modular at least somewhat and overall comfortable to shoot and handle. Traditional AK's and especially with wooden furniture just don't do it for me and AR's are not my thing either.
With that stated, there's many ways one can improve on AK just like with any other rifle that you prefer. AK's just so happen to be my preference.
Yes, all these mods make rifle easier to shoot/handle. In my particular experience they make the rifle more accurate as well and I believe its combinations of things.

Converted Saiga (newer series with 24mm FSB).
Cheek weld with this scope + Magpul CTR stock is outstanding, well balanced and very easy to place on target, a world of a difference when compared to traditional AK.
Those Hand guards dissipate heat much better than any wood or polymer.

IOR 4x24 (tac scope)

Russian 24mm compensator has internal baffle, reduces recoil a bit but sound very unusual/weird, not like any AK muzzle break I've shot with. Only drawback is that its not chromed lined as some of the other Russian muzzle devices. Needs to be removed for proper cleaning but that's not a big deal anyway. I use fine steel wool and it works well.

Surefire G2 (200lm LED).

Awesome build. Unique and best of all, it is what YOU want!
I'd do something similar if I had an AK.

I like it. What kind of accuracy are you getting out of it with that scope? What stock tube is that? Finally, how do you like your light mount?

Did not measure groups on paper but was able to shoot gallon milk jugs constantly at 180yd away (LRF) with out any problem. Have not shot any further, next time out will.
Tube is Aluminum from CSS, Flashlight & mount is good, It's slimmer in profile then some other ones out there. I had to fabricate the mount as in stock form it won't work on Midwest Ind rail in the up position.

@mrlonewolf
Yes, he designed the rifle in the 40's and it was fine back then. We don't live in those times so why would people be locked with that ideology mindset in modern times?
To each it's own I guess, I'm not here to explain why technology/innovation is a good thing.
Anyway, M. Kalashnikov never really was in charge of what he wanted in a rifle either. What Soviet/Russian higher command wanted then it was done. Even currently Russians try to upgrade their AK to somehow modern standard, even if they look a bit off.....at least they try to keep up.

Some Russian army units and police also upgrade their AK's over traditional. Yes, some even with American stuff.

Tradition is boring.

That Strikefire is sitting on an ultra-low mount now.

FiveSeven, your build looks amazing! Is it easy to attach the CTR stock? I have no experience switching them out.

Thanks

Thanks, Yes it's very easy. Drop in installation. Take old stock out and attach this one it its place.

With this type of tube, you won't be able to mount some if not all side clamping scopes. The permanent sling mount (ear) prevents scope mount in lining up with the mount rails.
You would have to cut off sling mount.

Or you can get polymer tube for half the price. I have it on my other Saiga and it's just as good or even better.

I'm a wood person and I personally wouldn't put ANY of that stuff on mine but who cares. Each to his own. It's your rifle you can do whatever you want with it. But I'm curious of how it makes it more accurate.

Good Red dot/Scope make it more accurate OR makes it easier to be more accurate. Beats AK's front post anytime.
Red dot and especially scope requires constant/repetitive and proper cheek weld to maintain consistency in accuracy. Traditional stocks do not have any cheek support when it comes to optics unless red dot is low enough, like Ulimak gas tube mount.
Depends on a flash hider/muzzle brake you use. Some improve accuracy slightly and some degrade it horribly.

If a gun is more comfortable to shoot/handle then that in-itself will make it easier to shoot more accurately.

I don't Know if rails and red dots, collapsible stocks etc, make it more accurate or not and I really don't care. I just wanted a non traditional AK.
I have several traditional AK'S .I just wanted something different.

THIS! Is my the best of seen so far. Wow! Are the iron sights still usable over the rail system?

I dont have an AK yet and plan on building one from a flat if I can get into one of the build parties.

What type is this? Can these mods (rail system, stock) be added to any AK, or do I have to stick to a specific brand of parts or country? As you can see I know nada about AK's.

Yeah, too "commissary ninja."

One of my other rifles, just finished it (didn't get a chance to shoot it yet).
Flash hider is little bit darker in real life then in these slightly processed photos. It's darker brownish in color (anti corrosion finish).

Saiga hand-guard modified/drilled (3 points) to accept short rail, Magpul AFG is very secure, rock solid. ACE SOCOM stock provides very good eye relief for the scope.
Very sturdy stock, have it on my other AK and liked it so much I got one for this rifle.

Scope was used on another rifle and it works well.
Since it was made for PSL it sits much lower than regular AK PSO type scope. Which is perfect, irons are still usable with the scope mounted.

Those are BCM Battlecomp's in 24X 1.5 mm thread pattern. Nobody has those except a few people. They don't make them for sale.

I think SJGG meant to say BCE, as in Battle Comp Enterprises.
They are pretty rare. When I got the 2 I own there were only 10 in existence.

I'll have a solid review up on those soon. I plan to hit the local conex
city with my GoPro and a few other cameras sometime next week.

The AK-105 was built by Valkyrie Arms as a pistol and SBR'ed by yours truly.
Probly why it looks so familiar to SJGG, he built it. It's the nicest AK I've ever
had the pleasure of riding hard and putting away wet.

If you don't mind revealing it, how much was the 105 pistol build?

I built that Tan gun too, I was actually looking for that yesterday.

They do, I didn't have one at the moment, and that had to get shipped out of state before the stock could be installed.

They been out for a while in 14x1, have it on my Draco and I like it better than PWS47.
The reason there not as popular as everything else out there is because the cost is pretty high for some.

Traditional AK's and especially with wooden furniture just don't do it for me and AR's are not my thing either.
With that stated, there's many ways one can improve on AK just like with any other rifle that you prefer. AK's just so happen to be my preference (won't go into it- don't care for vs. debates anymore).

Extremely well done. That thing must be a shooter. I can't believe I missed this thread. Yeah ergos, LOP, and optics make an AK an extremely nice platform.
