If you are considering applying...
...stop procrastinating and just do it. I did and the OC Sheriffs were actually helpful and made me modify my application to include my backcountry treks as part of cause.
So I've had my permit awhile and was stopped and questioned in relation to a burglary report. Upon providing my ID and CCW Permit I saw a visible change in the officer's demeanor. Having a permit is to cops what a black credit card is to salespeople. I was detained for a short time while the issue was resolved (miscommunication between employer and employee who didn't know anyone was authorized to enter premises and remove certain items) but I learned a valuable lesson. Having that card elevates your standing with law enforcement considerably. That surprised me. Don't think about it, just apply for your CCW now. Then wear it everyday until it becomes as habitual as carrying your wallet or phone. Thanks to everyone on this board who assisted me in making the move.

Human beings only have two ways to deal with one another: reason and force. Force has no place as a valid method of social interaction, and the only thing that removes force from the menu is the personal firearm, as paradoxical as it may sound to some. The U.S. city with the most restrictive gun laws in the nation, Washington, D.C., has the highest murder rate at 24 per 100,000. The state with the most unrestrictive gun regulations, Vermont, has the lowest murder rate at 0.48 per 100,000. |

My ccw instructor a San Bernardino Sheriff Captain said “Let them and then get a lawyer and sue” specifically about LA County. He said they get calls all the time at the ccw unit for verification and are tired of it.

I have been stopped several times in L.A. by L.A.P.D. and both times the officer was respectful and courteous. Upon presenting my CCW I was told by both officers that they wished their department issued. Both times I was stopped was for minor traffic violations and both times I was sent on my way without a citation or being pulled out of my car and disarmed!!!

The cops around here (Sac area) don't blink an eye when you inform them. Just business as usual apparently.
Yesterday I carried in the Bay Area. I am always paranoid about cop interactions there...... Sent from my SM-G920P using Tapatalk |

Aww, quit exaggerating. That only happens if you’re black or Latino .

A little different situation, but I mentioned to a cop in the gym that I was thinking about it and he provided strong encouragement to do it ASAP. He went on to explain he would have one even if he wasn't LE. I didn't expect such friendly enthusiasm...

I tell people the same thing almost daily OP. Urban legends rule the minds of many concerning the process.
