Robocallers won't stop calling!

Use Voice over internet protocol
I use Talkatone, talkatone lets you burn your number anytime you want.
I never get robocalls.

It's known as Caller ID or Neighbor Spoofing. As slow as the Feds work, we'll all be putting up with the BS for a long time before they do anything to stop the Spammers.

Joke's on them. I've had this landline number since 1994. They haven't issued numbers in my prefix in 25 years.

The one that gets me is my work phone. I inherited one from a previous manager who was apparently buying viagra from Canadian pharmacies.
3-5 calls every day during business hours. Unless I recognize the number, I let it go to VM. If they don't leave a message, they get blocked.

For awhile I made a point of actually trying to speak with a living person just to F with them. Keep them on the line as long as possible, to the point of giving them a bogus first 12 digit credit card # and then saying "the last 4 are 'go F yourself' " and listening to the fireworks on the other end of the line.

Got too tiring.

Calls tapered off for awhile but are starting again.

List of people calling me:

- Additional healthcare

- Vacation Offers (these have SOME legitimacy to them but screw them for using a phone # spoofing service)

- Credit Card Interest Rate Reduction (these are my FAVORITE because they are UNQUESTIONABLY criminals who like to argue and go nuts when they get SO close to getting a CC# only to find out they wasted all that time with me)

- A crazy over the top evangelical recording. Sat through 5 minutes of this one time just to get to the live donation operator but the payoff was not satisfying as even when I told them to F off they were SUPER polite about it.

I suspect that what is going on is that there is some company independent of all these who's sole mission is to auto-dial local #s from a spoofed local #, and then they hand off the call to any number of scam runners. One time MY # was used because I got an irate text from someone asking me to stop calling them.

I heard that after the first of the year (should be any time now), the major cell phone providers will be rolling out some new technology that will compare the phone number that gets displayed with the actual source of the call. If the two don't match, the call won't go through. "They" say this will eliminate about 95 percent of the spam calls. I sure hope it works and I sure hope they get this technology up and running soon.

I hope so, otherwise there won't be much we can do. When it first started happening I told FCC but given how many people this is happening to, with no end in sight, probably a futile exercise.

Also, I think my strategy might be working to some extent in terms of the actual scam companies, as now a lot of times I get obvious robo calls but when I am connected the line goes dead. So in my imagination what is happening is that the call center person picks up, sees my number but it is flagged with "Troublemaker" and they know not to waste time trying to engage with me. Doesn't do anything to keep my phone from ringing initially but at least the d-heads at the scam companies don't try to talk to me anymore.

I got one yesterday from my own number! Plenty of them in Chinese too. Just annoying when they call early in the morning or late at night but that isn’t too often.

It works, believe me. I have been known to come on to the callers, male or female. It works My wife just shakes her head and says I am gross

Most of them are now robo so no "hottie" on the other end of the line

Pretty simple really.

If you get called by any number that is NOT already in your Contacts list, you don't answer. There is no law yet that says you have to answer your phone, just because it rings.

If they leave a voicemail, then you decide whether or not to return the call. 98% of the time, they will not leave a voicemail, so **** 'em. You didn't want to talk to them anyway.

my home phone is a magicjack; they now have a "call screening" option, where the caller has to press a random number to be connected. no junk calls since i enabled that.

the cell, i have the default ringer set to silent, and set actual ringtones for contacts. any spam voicemails, or repeat calls with no voicemail...blocked.

also gotten a hateful voicemail on my google voice number, which was apparently spoofed...guy talked about knowing where i am and hunting me down....then turned around and talked about calling the cops.

I haven't had a home telephone since mobile phones existed.
My work phone does get robocalls. I have caller ID, and manages to get their numbers.
I quickly write their phone # down, and google it.
1 in 10 phone #s gets a hit on a local business/warehouse/unmanned office from google maps.
One of these days, I am going to go to all those locations I have recorded and going to give them HELL and also to serve them.

All of them that I have found seems to be a business ran by a Middle Eastern fck Muslim ****s.

Base station on old cordless landline took a crap last yr.

Got this from Best Buy. 4 handsets, lithium batteries that last for 4 days.

Looks like a great set. I've been happy with my Call Blocker, though some do get through. One press of the button and never hear from them again. I might have to look into that set you brought up here.
