Default 5.56 go no no gauge for .223 wylde?

I have NATO 5.56 headspace gauges so is it safe to check the headspace on a .223 wylde barrel with it? I know you can safely use a .223 round in a 5.56 chamber but not vise versa so a yes or no is greatly appreciated thank you.

I believe so, the gauge only checks shoulder to base.

As I understand it, the Wylde chamber is only different in the throat.

Which 5.56 gauges do you have?
223 and 5.56 share almost the same minimum length spec, but have different maximum length specs.
A 223 wylde chamber can be cut to either spec.
So, depending on what gauge you have, you could get correct or incorrect results depending on how the maker intended your chamber to be.

Ok, now that I know what gauges you have, it's safe to use the GO gaugeto check the minimum chamber length.
Your chamber SHOULD pass the FIELD test as well but that does not actually tell you if you have a 223 length chamber or a 5.56 length chamber.
It will tell you that it's safe to fire 5.56 ammo.

You would need a 223 specific gauge to test if it's safe to fire 223 ammo.
