Default LTC Process Order

What is the correct order of operations to apply for a CCW? Should I apply before I take the class?

Thanks,

Kirk

AFAIK...
1. Pick up application.
2. Fill out application.
3. Call for interview.
4. Wait for interview date.
5. Go to interview and turn in application.
6. Wait for an opening in the issuing agency's approved training course.
7. Go to the issuing agency's approved training course.
8. Wait for the issuing agency to approve or deny your application.
9a. If approved, be happy.
9b. If denied, be sad.

shorter version, get approved, take class. In San Bernardino County, it is only the Sheriff's class and qualification. Other counties may vary along with your experience.....

It's important to know when money will leave your pocket and at what points you may have your process denied.

Sacramento County:
1. Obtain interview appointment on Sac Sheriff website
2. Pick up application or obtain it on line
3. Fill out application, draft Good Cause statement, obtain proof of residency, worry about your background and childhood.
4. Wait for interview date.
5. Go to interview and turn in application, answer questions, turn in GC and proofs of residence indices. Pay $20.
6. Wait for SSD approval to move forward with LiveScan
(6a. Receive letter from SSD denying application. 30-day appeal period begins.)
7. Obtain live scan and pay $120. Prepare to wait.
8. Wait. While waiting, obtain training from any entity approved by SSD. Pay $120++.
9. Wait.
10. Receive SSD clearance from LiveScan. (Much later than DOJ electronic completion). Letter will tell you to make final issuance appointment.
(10a. Receive letter from SSD denying application. 30-day appeal period begins.)
11. Make final appointment through SSD website.
12. Wait.
13. Attend final appointment, sign license, read restrictions. Pay money ($80)
14. Wait.
15. Receive license by certified mail.
16. Smile; buy Nachos.

^^^^This except I took my class first (They'll tell you not too) - No amount of training can hurt, and you can get lots of good information there from others who have or are applying for their LTC.

Some will say it shows how committed you are (I don't think so), but I do think you'll have a bit more confidence in the interview.
