So the consensus seems to be about 5-6 months from your interview until your permit is in hand?

Also can someone tell me more about the class? Is it offered by the SBSD or someone else? What is the current cost?

So I picked up my new packet today. Did they do away with the notarized authorization of information release?

Also, in the new packet I have, there is no space for the "four points of contact" who know you well.

So either they didn't give me a few things, or they really, really did simplify the process.

ETA - The fee's went up though. :\

What fees were you quoted? I'm trying to come up with the complete cost for the whole process.

Fee's are on the second page of the packet. $108 for the fingerprinting, $29.20 for background check, and $116.80 is due when you pick up the permit.

Then the course fee is $100 and if you do it at the Apple Valley Gun Club it's an additional $25

Default How long after interview before being notified to scheduled range class?

Today its my 90th day after my interview. Wondering if I don't get a call today if I should sit tight for few weeks or call tomorrow to check on the status?

I just picked up my application and made an appointment today. Looks like the interviews are being scheduled six months out; my interview is set for November.

Just out of curiousity, how many us have tried Ontario PD first?

I paid the $15 and she told me that their new policy required me to qualify with the weapon I was adding. That was fine with me. Then she took my firearm to a rear area of the building for an officer to verify it was registered to me etc. Here is how the discussion went with the officer that inspected the firearm:

Officer: "How are you going to carry this?"
Me: "In a belt holster."
Officer: "You can't, it's too big."
Me: "I've tried it, I can carry it."
Officer: "Nope, it's too big."
Me: "Well I'd also like to have it on my permit so I can have it in the car with me."
Officer: "We don't put guns on permits just so you can put it under your seat or in the glove box."
Me: "It won't be in either location. It will be on the seat next to me, concealed."
Officer: "No, it is too big. You cannot put it on your permit."
Me: "What is the criteria for determining if it is too big?"
Officer: "There is no criteria. We just decide when it is too big."

At that point the officer walked away and left me with the receptionist and my HK.

I have considered writing the officer to request objective criteria. Is there a barrel length after which you cannot add the firearm to a permit? It seems rather arbitrary. I definitely won't purchase a full-frame gun without checking with them to make sure it can be added to the permit.

And yes, I do realize a Mark 23 would be challenging to conceal on my person. But it would really be nice to have it accessible in the car when travelling.

What are your thoughts everyone? Thank you.
I guess how the LEO saw it was CCW is for self protection in a defensive situation at close range. At longer range you can flee from harm and firing far gives you a higher chance to miss. A Mark 23 I guess isn't considered defensive?

For example I doubt they will allow a Desert Eagle .44 on the CCW permit.

CCW is pretty much at the sheriffs discretion for approval. Correct me if i'm wrong. Otherwise people would be adding AR15 pistols

How big are YOU? I can conceal my Desert Eagle but I am 6'4. My wife is not able to conceal a 5 shot revolver because she is so small. It's all relevant to proportions.

Just had my interview today. Interview was faster than the wait for finger printing. As mentioned, no ref. letters or references required.

Now the 90+ day waiting game begins.

118 days since interview. Called today to check the status, DOJ and neighborhood check is done just waiting on Riverside (previously lived there) to send requested info. San Bernardino's second attempt to get info from Riverside. All in all I am happy to see things moving in the right direction. Can't imagine it taking more than a couple more weeks.

Went and changed a gun on my permit before class on Saturday, good thing too because thay can not do it on Saturday. Saw a sign that said guns can only be changed one time a year now.

I finished. At first, I was getting nervous. Everyone in the process was warm and friendly, while the interviewer was not. Once I realized that the interviewer was just being professional, I relaxed. They werent being mean or rude or anything like that, just not warm. Everything went well, and I should be hearing from them in 90 days. Let the countdown begain!!!

Just got a call from SBSD. Looks like there's some openings and they're moving appointments up.

Mine got bumped from November to later this month.

Called today for appointment. First available is 9-16.

Sadly my wife needs a firearm in her name before they will schedule.
I can either transfer one or buy a new one...

Sorry if this has been asked before. I just picked up my CCW packet from the Fontana PD. Do I have to go thru them first? Or do I just go straight to the San Bernardino Sheriff?

You will need your Fontana rejection letter when you have the Sheriff interview. I'd go pick the Sheriff packet and get on the list. Then turn in the PD packet. Fontana took about 30 days to get mine done.

I'm still curious about this one. The packet says to have a rejection letter but from what I understand, we're not required to have to go to a local PD first. Is this still true do we still have to go through this hoop?

Also anyone have any experience with Ontario PD?

At the time of my interview, I had to have a letter from Fontana. It really wasn't a big deal. It took me 10 minutes to fill it out I think I waited 3-4 weeks for my letter to come back. They also sent back all of the checks I left.

Default Lasergrips not allowed if they cover a serial?

Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum but have been browsing around for some time.

I just finished my first CCW interview this morning, and one of the ladies in the office (not the investigator assigned to my permit) got very upset that I had an aftermarket grip on my gun. I have a CrimsonTrace lasergrip on a S&W M&P 9c, and the laser diode just covers the serial number on the frame. I took the grip off in 3 seconds and she handed the firearm over to the investigator and told me "you can't use those grips on your gun if they cover the serial number, so don't ever carry with it." I let it go while I was there, but the more I think about it, the more upset I get about it.

Why would an easily removed piece of equipment that covers a serial number (only while installed) be unacceptable during carry? It doesn't modify the serial, it doesn't permanently alter or cover it, and 3 seconds and a twist of the takedown tool is all it takes to remove it to reveal the number. Is this just a case of an overzealous office worker that didn't like being inconvenienced, or am I not actually allowed to carry a weapon with the serial number temporarily covered?

because it does technically violate the PC against covering serial numbers.

537e. (a) Any person who knowingly buys, sells, receives, disposes
of, conceals, or has in his or her possession any personal property
from which the manufacturer's serial number, identification number,
electronic serial number, or any other distinguishing number or
identification mark has been removed, defaced, covered, altered, or
destroyed, is guilty of a public offense, punishable as follows:
(1) If the value of the property does not exceed nine hundred
fifty dollars ($950), by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding
six months.
(2) If the value of the property exceeds nine hundred fifty
dollars ($950), by imprisonment in a county jail not exceeding one
year.
