Ranges being closed?
I was reading posts on this forum and was sickened by the number of ranges that are being closed due to trash. This is nothing new. Too many places have been shut down already for this reason. Some people just can't get the clue. We need either to clean up their droppings and wipe their a*s or inform them politely that they are idiots and are fk'ing it up for everyone and even they will not be able to shoot there soon and they will have nowhere to go either.
Next time you see someone dumping, Call the Rangers and let them make some money for the state and possibly keep these ranges open for decent people to enjoy. Minding your own business is a cowards excuse in ANY crime. Just let everyone do what they want. I don't want to get involved. It's none of my business. There are two of them and one of me. I don't want to be a NARK... Gutless, Pansey, idiotic way of thinking. Without enough balls to do the RIGHT thing, We are not men. Understand? |

I don't think calling the rangers will help.. probably prompt them to close the range more..
I'd say stop them yourself, if things get out of hand call the rangers

I have been to quite a few of places to shoot where there is trash and the majority of the trash is from shooters who don't care. They haul a bunch a crap out there in their vehicle, shoot it up and leave it. People that are just dumping trash don't bother to drive to as a remote areas as this. They usually drive out just far enough so they can unload it quick with out being seen. I drive all over the place for work and I see this all the time.

How about jotting down the license plate number/make and model and/or pic if possible of the vehicle/people committing the crime and hand it to the rangers or even post it at the range? confrontation can escalate to other issues depending on the type of person you or the criminal are especially when someone is knowingly committing a crime. just my 2 pesos.

Apart from playing the active role with other people which may or may not be wise, bring a big plastic trash bag with you on every outing and make sure you put more in that bag from the range than you brought to it. it's just that simple... if 51% of people can take out 101% of the debris they show up with we'd be in constant need of more debris. Every time I start running around with a big bag picking up trash anyone else there starts picking it up or just up and leaves. Either of those seems cool by me at the time.

i was at the range on wednesday the 18th at burro, and when i was done the line was still hot. so picked up a broom and swepped my area and the empty one next to me which was full off empty brass. Next thing you know, a couple of other guys sweeping other empty areas that were left with trash. Monkey see monkey do i guess. thats a good thang!

Just posted about this in the Glass Factory thread.... But I have an idea, has anyone thought about making and posting signs (metal or paper) about cleaning up trash, like a "if you don't clean up your trash, the gov't will close this range too" sort of thing. Maybe list ranges that have been closed due to trash and "this one will be next", etc.
Also be a good way to get some CalGuns ad's at the same time if it's sponsored/endorsed by CalGuns. They are unregulated for a reason but I've yet to see a sign about anything on any of these ranges I've shot at, let alone about cleaning up trash. Will it help? I have no idea. Signs assume people can read and might give a flying hoot, which are huge assumptions, but without being closed or some form of regulation, they won't stay open. Don't be surprised if you see a new bill banning discharging a weapon outside a regulated range type of thing or banning ranges all together.

Doesn't work. My local trash heap posted signs just like that and the idiots tore them down and used them for targets. About a year ago they replaced the tables with new concrete ones and so far one has gone missing and the rest are cratered and broken. Heck I think it took a full day before they had genitalia painted on them.

I talked to the BLM LEO for the spot in Parris just to double check on rules an regulations before I go for the first time so I don't get in trouble. He said it probably won't be long before that spot is closed to shooting due to the trash. I figured it can't be that bad but when I got there, I was disgusted at how much trash was there and how people just don't give a ****. I didn't even stay to shoot due to peoples lack of basic firearms safety.

Lytle Creek anyone ?
Those of you who shot at Lytle Creek back in the "bad old days" know exactly the consequence. Too much trash and people getting hurt, the county will shut it down, period. It's just a matter of time. Now that Lytle Creek is run by a fantastic private concession, it's a safe, controlled and clean place to shoot. You do lose a bit of that wild west fun, but now that I am older and wiser, I would trade that for the safety of a controlled range.
