I bought it at Botac.com for $50.00 shipped and no tax. You'll need to replace the sling loop with a sling swivel stud.

Very nice turnout indeed. Love the Mega, wish I went that route as well.

Gotta get a few minor issues straightened out but it should be sweet shooting.

As it stands right now, no ammo, no optics, 9lbs.

I'm hoping to drop it another 1lb with an acs possibly.

Here is an update of my build so far. Taking it slow

Build so far consist of:
CMMG .308 Lower (Sprayed with a little Desert Mirage Brown Duracoat)
Battle Arms Development - Ambidextrous Safety Selector (BAD-@$$)
Magpul PMAG LR20 10/20
Magpul CTR with Car-10 Bufffer Assembly (heavybuffers.com)
MAID Grip, AFG, Gen 2 sights and rail ladders for upper
Geissele SSA

Optics
I wanted the donut recticle instead of the T, but for a free Bobro mount and switchview, couldn't pass it up.

SWFA SS 1-4x24 Tactical 30mm Riflescope
•First Focal Plane Illuminated T Reticle (Post/Mil-Scale)
BOBRO Mount
SWFA SS Switchview Throwlever

Upper ordered and being built by Addax Tactical:
ADDAX TACTICAL GUARDIAN MK16-1 .308 AR UPPER RECEIVER ASSEBMLY
Billet .308 upper
Daniel Defense 12.0 lite rail
Battlecomp BABC compensator
Chrome BCG with black titanium nitride bolt
VLTOR Charging Handle (7.62mm/.308) w/ Mod 4

Not the best shots looking through the scope, but you get the idea. I really am amazed on how bright the illumination is on this baby. It is very bright in daylight where my hi-lux leatherwood not visible in daylight at all.

1x illuminated

4x not illuminated through my screen and sliding door

Default AR308 Lightweight Build With Range Report

This is my second build on a Tactical Machining lower.
The first one is here.
http://www.calguns.net/calgunforum/s...d.php?t=318290
By the time I was done it weighed something like 17 pounds without optics and was not what I would call accurate, the best groups I got were on the bench with Federal Match, 1.5 inch group @ 100 yards.

So I sold it and moved on to something else.
I missed the 308AR but not the weight, so I decided to build a light as possible, but also as accurate as possible rifle on a new TM lower.
Major build parts as follows...
-TM lower
-DD LPK
-Magpul ACS & MOE grip
-Slash's Heavy carbine Buffer
-Geissele S2S trigger.
-Raddlock

-Fulton side cocking upper and bolt carrier
-16 inch Black Hole stainless match barrel mid length gas with dimples
-Troy gas block
-JP Handguard
-SJC Titan stainless muzzle brake
-BCM Charging Handle Mod 3

Rifle weighs 8.4 Lbs, no mag on my Chicom digital postal scale.
Topped off with a TA11 ACOG its at 9.7 Lbs.
100 yard groups, American Eagle .308, 5 shot group at 1.2 inches and the Federal match is a little better.
This one is a keeper.

Believe it or not, it's a complete Hesse rifle, that works. With a Super Sniper scope and Fab SR25 stock

Nice Hesse! My first 308 AR was built with a Hesse/ Blackthorne upper. Mine has some issues with the gas block leaking, but is insanely accurate. I'm thinking about swapping out the gas block with one of the DPMS lo pro blocks to see if it will seal better.

Mine in FDE with PRS stock on a Noveske N-6 lower:

took this bad boy out to the range and fired off a couple rounds then opened up the gas block half a turn. Continued the process till the thing cycled well then took it another half turn. I'm shooting mil-surplus .308 and its so soft shooting its ridiculous. The rifle length gas sys and the pws FSC_30 must be doing their job!

Finally got it stripped down and painted in FDE duracoat. Still haven't had time to shoot it though. Hopefully in the next week or so while I'm on leave.

Thanks Man. The color match would have been much closer, but the batch of Duracoat I used has been sitting in my garage for about 2 years now. I think some of the black pigment didn't mix in when I shook it up, so it's a shade or so lighter than Magpul FDE. Matches pretty good with the Tango Down SCAR panels on the forend though

ok i am so confused all these guns are bad ***. i am looking into building my own ar15 but what i am confused about is are the one's on the ban list in cali more dangerous then what we can build legally. this ban seems pretty stupid do they think the ones they ban are more of a assult rifle then other rifles it just makes no sense to me. is there a good shop in the inland empire that has a good supply of cali legal ar parts to build a 308 ar
thank you
rob

Default Reconfigured my build

I decided to change mine a little.
Went with a Fulton 18.5 inch rifle length gas system barrel and a Surefire muzzle brake.
VLTOR EMOD stock.
Changed the optics to a Trijicon Accupoint 3x9 I had laying around.
Putting the ACOG and the Black Hole barrel on the new build.

Great looking setup, very similar to what I had in mind for my own build with the Fulton upper. Is that the Phantom LTE barrel?

Len,

What did you use for the bolt catch on this build?
I just sent back the receiver that I had, it was a blem with LPK installed (the more I stared at it the more the 'blems' stood out) so I'm exchanging it for a stripped lower. From what I understand they are set up to use the DPMS pattern LR-308 bolt catch with a roll-pin and a set screw, not the threaded pin that comes with the LPK. I just wanted to get benefit of your experience on this.

Hey guys,

I recently got a CMMG 308 lower. Can anyone tell me more specifics about this? I've been reading here, regarding the mag catch and issues with the bolt catch? Can someone tell me more in detail about these problems? I was also thinking about getting a DPMS (assembled) upper, but it seems my barrel options are limited, unlike my MEGA build. Sorry, I have been working on my 5.56 builds, and just getting back into the .308 world. Thanks in advance, I'll hopefully post u some builds here soon.

Jerry

Hi Jerry,
There is one question I would have to ask you regarding the CMMG .308 lower first, is it the MK-3 (older), or MK-8 (newer) model?

MK-3 looks like this

if you have the MK-3 (their older model) it does have some issues, but I am pleased with it overall.

1ST ISSUE – the front take down pin has just a hair to much material in front of it to allow the upper to hinged like an AR-15, it has to come up. here is my conversation with Tech support:

Quote:
Me: I have a MK-3 .308 lower receiver and I realized that the material around the front pin hole is not the same which makes it so that you cannot split the upper and lower by removing the rear pin and rotating the upper and lower in opposite directions (like opening a double barrel shotgun I guess) for cleaning or whatever. It might be confusing in the way I'm trying to explain, so if that's the case, just ask for specification. This was the case with all the uppers I tried on this lower. They fit nice and snug with both the pins in but they pretty much just come apart straight up and down.

I tried to get the upper and lower open like this by sticking in the front pin and forcing it by rocking it back and forth which shaved off a little bit which wasnâ t the best idea, but oh well. I then used some Aluminum Black Metal touch up, but it still looks bad from up close as can be seen in the pictures.

Is there anything that can be done easily to have the extra 1-2 hundredths of an inch taken off and then re-coated to look better?

Tech Support: Our older .308 Lower design was not machined to actually be hinged like your wanting, our new design is. There is good news-I can get your lower and machine it for hinging like our new ones and have it re-anodized and tefloned for you. Your cost for that would be $60 for the machining and $35 for the re-coating, plus shipping costs. Let me know if you’re interested. – CMMG Tech Support
I ended up getting it taken care of somewhere else, but they were helpful.

2ND ISSUE – my magazine would fall out randomly (before I had an upper receiver) I tried a couple of thing which both worked. The first was to put a very small shim between the right side of the bullet button and the bullet well (in the front of it if you’re looking down range)which made the mag catch stay in. the second solution came from my friend had a Raddlock gen-x bullet button and was bummed because he couldn’t use the mag release tool that Phase 5 Tactical makes so he traded me for my regular Prince bullet button. If you don’t install the rubber gaskets that it comes with, and tighten it down, the Raddlock doesn’t have the same issue.
And, for the MK-3, as far as I know, any DPMS style upper will work (Armalite, and Rock Rivers will not) I built a SASS upper and I love it.
The last issue you mentioned was problems with the bolt release/catch? I haven’t had any issues, but I would recommend the Phase 5 Tactical Extended Bolt release if you’re looking for one. Here’s a picture of mine.

MK-8 looks like this:

if you have the MK-8, I’m not much help, but after talking to CMMG about my MK-3 issues, they mentioned the MK-8 was the replacement model for the MK-8 but took a different magazine but that’s about all I know.

When I had the DPMS LPK mag latch installed the Pmags would not stay in consistantly and if the mag was wiggled it would fall out. I purchased the AR-10 mag latch and it worked great with no issues of the Pmag falling out.

I got mine here:

http://dsgarms.com/ProductInfo/ARMEA1108.aspx

or here:

http://www.armalite.com/ItemForm.aspx?item=EA6080

For mine, the main difference in the two is the ar-10 catch bolt has a slight angle inward. This is what makes it work cause when you place it in the lower and screw it down, it forces the catch to go into the mag slot deeper.

Wow, thanks for the info. I have the MK-3 lower, with a parts kit, and I ordered the Phase 5 lever already. As for the upper, if I got a Noveske complete upper, will it bolt on? I was told by someone before that I'd have modify it somehow, which I wasn't too comfortable doing... If that's the case, I'd rather just sell the lower and get something else.
