Delta Baggage charge video...
Gents,
So I just saw this video passed on by someone else. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_borufk9RTc There's one thing I'd like to clarify before I go on a furious email spree against their customer service. The soldier states that he checked a weapons case containing his M4, a 209 grenade launcher and his M9. To this uneducated civilian, this sounds very fishy. Does the Army send a soldiers' issued weapons with them on civilan airplanes as checked baggage? Thank you guys in advance for the clarification.

That is a 203 attached to his m4.
What they fail to say is the expense was on a government travel card, a fully reimbursable claim, that I'm only assuming that would have cost far more had they either chartered a special flight, or paid to ship the weapons out of country. They make it seem as if the soldier had to pay out of his pocket, but keep in mind military orders only allow 2 bags and normally provide a different shipping for items out of country. Like he said the unit had to pay, but they would have paid more for a personal property move for each member.

yes when we fly commercial on official duty we have to check our weapons in just like any other baggage. Usually the airline has been notified beforehand to expedite the process.

Very True Jermz!!!
I have never had any problem checking my weapons cases when I travel. Hlaf the time when TSA checks them(while I am standing there) they ask if they can pic it up and check it out. They know they are military weapons, open them and inspect then close my case. At that point I secure it with locks and searialized tamper seals. I watch as they are loaded on the plane then go back up to the gate to get on my flight. Cahnces are the soldiers will get the $$ back when they file a travel claim. It won't come out of the soldier's pocket but Delta should not have charged them for the 4th bag. Just my .02 |

Video was removed by the user. I would not be surprised if they got in trouble over this. 4th bag where do they draw the line 5th or 6th bag? They shoulkd have charged them they have expenses to run a business, and like we keep saying THEY CHARGED THE GOVERNMENT NOT THE SOLDIERS

Bear in mind, their orders said 3 bags and they had prearranged for them to travel with 3 bags. The airline chose to enforce standard policy over the arrangement at the last minute - according to a news article I read about this incident. |

yep. when i went to Ft. Polk we had the airline escort our guys do the plane to load our weapons on the plane. no big deal. but that was before 9/11 though. probably hasn't changed that much since then.
