Default Any first-hand gunsmith experience around San Diego?

I'm looking to see if anyone has any gunsmith they have used. My dad's gunsmith he trusted is now retired.

Priced fair, I don't mind paying for quality, I'd just rather not send my parts out of state to be built.

Looking to have a barrel threaded crowned and fitted, also bed the rifle to the stock.

Thanks guys I appreciate any help

I have used Clothey and Son at the border of Santee/Lakeside several times and like their work. Good to talk with also. Fairly busy every time I've been there, which is a good indicator of happy customers.
At the far east end of Mission Gorge Road, just past No. Magnolia where it turns into Woodside, just west of the Hwy 67 overpass. In a small two story strip mall next to the exterior stairs.

Hugo at Duncan’s has done work for me. Nothing complicated, but the work has been good. They are close to you. I’d at least talk to him about your needs.

Also John at Accurate Arms has a good reputation with rifles.

Gunfighter Tactical on Miramar Road is very good. Great team there. These guys have never forgotten what it is like to be on our side of the counter.

I have had a brake installed with the barrel turned at Wylde Built. It has turned out great.

Hugo is great but the minimum shop fee there is $45. They have a test firing chamber there so that helps.

I had Gunfighter re-do an upper with a new barrel, gas block, etc. for $25.

Is that fee new? I never paid that much for anything.

I would say Randall does the best barrel work your going to find in CA for a reasonable cost and turn around time.

I've seen work performed by some local shops in San Diego and would not let any of them touch my barrel. Most send it out to a shop because they do not have internal Gunsmithing capabilities.

You can send your stuff up to Randall or make the drive and he will do the work while you wait.

Good luck either way, please update with who you used and how it came out.

Matt

I had a good experience with Gunfighter Tactical. Took a bit longer than I expected but they are good guys and I would bring my guns back to them.

Gunfighter Tactical is an outstanding Gun Store.

Does anyone know where they have their barrel Gunsmithing work done? (I don't think they have a machine shop at their storefront in Mira Mar)

Thanks

Matt
