Default Base/rings question

I just picked up a remington 700 and a SWFA SS 10x42 scope and looking for base and rings. Was looking at this kit http://swfa.com/TPS-Mounting-Kit-for...on-P44682.aspx but don't know if those rings will set the scope too high?

It's odd that it doesn't tell you what the ring height is.

For a SWFA SS 10x42mm with 20moa base... on say a Rem 700 with Rem Varmint contour barrel like the one on the SPS Tactical, you'd probably be safe with a .82 to .87 ring height.

A 1" ring height will probably look high, but it'll probably be fine if you have an adjustable cheek riser.

For a 42mm objective, most low rings should work just fine. You want the bottom of the bell pretty close to the barrel. If you find the measurements for those TPS rings, it's easy to figure out.

Warne rings, ha!

They will tell you ring height on their website

I found the TPS mediums were way too high even for my 50mm objective scopes on my Rem 700.

See my old thread with pictures.

Forgot to mention it is for a 700 aac-sd

If those are too high, does anyone have some recommendations?

Are you running a factory stock or something with an adjustable comb?

If not, lowest possible... Seekins Low or TPS Super Low

I have a pair of Warne low and a pair of Burris XTR low (both 30mm)... both .25" (6.35mm) from base to bottom of ring - .84" (21.35mm) to center of scope.

will sell the Warne for $35, Burris for $40

They will work well on your 42mm objective - they were a little too short for my 50mm.

Those look like "standard height" that will fit a 50mm objective. With a 40mm scope, you will likely want to step down once size, but call them and see what they have to say.
