Damn with the price of ammo i always ask if guys are collecting their brass or if I can have it...then I get it....I have become a brass hoarder/slut/whatever.

Have to ask though, anyone else have a run in at a range where they 'claim'ownership' of any brass that is not yours? I have but tell them it is all mine since i have asked the actual people who shot the ammo. They get bent out of shape,guess you can make some $$ with cleaning and selling once fired brass...

You know, I've always wondered about that. When I shoot indoors I always sweep up the brass and push it forward of the firing line, but I've always had this feeling that I might be pissing off someone who wanted to police up their brass and re-use it.

Sweeping the brass forward is good in that there is less of a chance for someone to inadvertently slip on it. After I am done shooting I sweep the brass forward as a courtesy to others.

Range courtesy: Ask the shooter next to you if they mind you sweeping their brass out of the way.

I always sweep the brass behind my station every 50 rounds or so as I don't want someone slipping on it and falling on me when I have a loaded gun in my hand. I figure it's a basic safety measure. You don't have to hockey stick it down to the 25 yard line, just push it into a little pile so that people can pick out the brass should the please.

I collect any brass can, I have bags of .223 even though it isn't one of the calibers I reload.

I always sweep up. Though I cannot say the same for other Jackson Arms range customers.

As a consequence of a lack of range lane cleanup I did find a box of new 25 ACP on the range today. I bet the previous person (who did not sweep or pick up afterward) thought the box was an empty and just left it on the floor. One box of ammo for me! Nice since I have two pistols in this caliber.

Man, you guys are either asking folks if you can take their brass, or shooting in places that don't care if you pack out the brass. All of the ranges I've been to so far don't really like you to take brass that isn't yours.

If it is a caliber you are shooting that day and it is busy, what range nazi is going to tell you what brass is yours and what isn't. Of coarse you shouldn't take others brass without asking.

I was at a Bullseye match in Sacramento a couple years ago and this guy busted out a tarp and a bunch of big binder clips. He then proceeded to use the lane dividing wall and a chair to make a funnel/slide so all his fired brass fell right into an open range bag. He had obviously been there before.

It was slick.

I usually just sweep my station and slightly behind it, but don't break the plane of the dividing walls. I don't reload so I just want to leave my station as clean as I had found it.

Guess I'll start asking my neighbors, if they look a bit more experienced, if they reload and want my brass. I don't want it.

I belong to a club that requires each member to clean up after themsleves. There are buckets on each range for spent brass. The club rules specifically allow members to scrounge from the buckets.

I suppose the concept that the range pays a brass deposit for their reloaded ammo is beyond your comprehension. If you didn't bring the brass, it ain't yours and you could be stealing from the range if it's their reloaded brass. If it's someone else's store bought ammo and not from the range then it's up to that person to give you permission but it's your responsibility to know that if it's range ammo, you can't take the brass.
