Gun Confiscation Begins - with no arrests
Came across this story in another gun forum -
In stockton it took DOJ agents 5 hours to confiscate 5 guns from convicted felons, yet not a one was escorted out in fancy braclets.... It would seem to me that if you want to send a message - throw their *****es in jail.... Steve http://www.cbsnews.com/8301-18563_16...-illegal-guns/ |

Legalize marijuana. I don't want to pay to keep pot heads in jail.

Five guns in five hours probably isn't too far out of line, considering they have to drive from house to house, search each house, log the evidence, etc... The felons likely already have a court date and will be back in prison soon |

This is all bull****, softening up the public to applaud gun confiscation.

It's been going on a long time. Only getting press now. They can't handle the felons, there certainly isn't enough man power to do anythign else. No need for the just yet I don't think.

It applied to non-violent 3rd strike convictions. Yes, you can felony assault the first two times, but as long as you are only caught on a drug related offense the third time, you're out. Nice way to put gang members back on the street.

I thought possession of a firearm by a felon is a federal offense. Why does the State of California have to house them? The Feds need to get off their *** and do their job?

The potheads aren't the ones in jail/prison, its the dealers. Possession of an ounce or less was decriminalized years ago, it was the last thing Arnold signed.

If the goal is to reduce the number of inmates, the state should start with the ones on death row. Flip the switch and turn on the vacancy sign.

The Feds won't even keep people from jumping the border illegally. That's the actual job of the federal government per the constitution.

no need for a tinfoil hat this has been going on for a while. i think i saw a story last year about the same program. they are only going after people who are prohibited from owning firearms, but still own them. they will never be able to keep up with the list though.

What pisses me off is the part that 3000 new felons with guns are added to the list each year. They're talking about felons they already know own guns. When they're convicted they already have them in custody, why don't they go get their guns at that very instant?
If it were you or me they'd confiscate our guns the minute we were suspected of something let alone arrested or convicted. |

I guess you have failed to read the sticky at the top of this page called DOJ delay. Welcome to the new way to prevent firearm ownership make it such a burden that nobody tries let alone gets a firearm. Just keep creating issue, not enough man power, not enough money, someone has your exact name, DOB, and SS, so we can't allow you to buy a firearm. So sorry you can't have one, just call the police.

Unfortunately though, drug users lose their heads and commit other crimes. Some to buy or obtain more drugs that they can't afford, and some because the drugs start having a more profound effect on their brains after repeated or increased use. Increasing access by legalization will result in an increase in crime, although not for possession, but worse crimes, in the near future, and probably would end up dwarfing those possession convicts.....the victimless ones you refer to. Keeping drugs from the wrong hands is as important as keeping guns from the wrong hands, with the exception that guns do not inherently make changes in peoples' brain chemistry

Everything is a felony these days (or the police can make it into one). Going away for life ough to be for something that actually warrants going to jail for life.

Considering that 25% or more of inmates are illegal aliens, maybe we ought to make a deal with Mexico to ship their citizens back to serve their sentences in a Mexican prison. We could pay Mexico to keep them in prison and it would cost us a lot less than keeping them in American prisons. Having to serve their sentences in a Mexican prison would be a good deterant as well.

Agreed. I would rather see them out on work parties than sitting around conspiring on future crimes. Make them go out and work to improve communities, fight fires, road projects or some other meaningful work to improve the state. Just locking them up doesn't work. I think a tent city out in the Mojave would at least pursuede a few to follow the laws.

5.5 hours to seize 5 guns with how many agents? This is what I keep saying, it's logistically impossible for them to get the guns from the estimated 40,000 criminals in the state that are in possession. There is no way in HELL they're going to confiscate them from us, it is a logistical impossibility.

Every one of those felons cited probably had guns back at their disposal within a half an hour. Family, friends, and black market dealers for the heavier stuff are teh ones that need some tent city time down in Arizona. Jery wants to cut the prison costs let the old sheriff down there house them. he makes money and they never want to go back.

Be careful what you wish for. With the ever increasing laws it doesnt take much to become an inmate nowadays. You wouldn't want one of those weapons stuck into your liver during a short visit.
