Default Rio Salado (Mesa AZ), I'm a fan, and I took some pictures...

...for you losers

Located 45 minutes east of Phoenix, Rio is a great place, with some beautiful scenery.

You dint do any real shooting there?

Sinistral Rifleman on youtube shoots a lot of matches there. They have some big multi-day matches there, like the AZ State PCC Championships.

Never been there myself. Too lazy.

What's the difference between trap, skeet, and sporting clays?

One's for old men that complain a lot, one's for old women that complain a lot...

...one's called sporting clays

Can't we all just get a thong

Bet it's nice in August?

Lots of Dirt, add wind and you've got a mess.

Still better than many other places I've seen. I go to Front Sight and it is closed in July and August and I doubt the temps are much different.

After buying our new Winter home in Gold Canyon, AZ to get out of the snow of NE CA, I joined Rio Salado in February. It's located below the big Phoenix arrow sign on the mountain side in Mesa. Shooting sporting clays amongst the cactus in the desert was a new experience for me. Much different from the forest setting in the mountains that I am used to, but none the less enjoyable. I took an introductory pistol steel course from Kippi Leatham, but haven't had a chance to compete yet. It is a great club with something for everyone.

So what all exactly do they shoot there?

Do they have rifle pistol and shotgun games and ranges and such? Clubhouse?

Yes. I have competed at USPSA Area 2 match over there a few years running. Very nice facility and very nice people running it.

They also had no issues with me camping there with my rooftop tent during the competition. Gave me an electronic key to go in and out after the gates are closed.

They hold lots of action type matches, 3 gun, 2 gun, black rifle, the state PCC championships, and like that. Go on youtube and search Rio Salado and you'll find plenty.

Yes, yes, yes, yes, and closed because of covid, in that order.

They shoot rifle, pistol, and shotgun, as well as USPSA, IDPA, ICORE, Steel, sporting clays, 5- stand, full auto, .50bmg, muzzle loader, small bore, and a bunch of rifle games.

Sounds pretty good, and there would be no one to complain about my API's.

Rio does a USPSA style sub-machine gun match once per month from September to May. PCC shooters can compete in the same match alongside the sub-guns. They sometimes win!

They also have a belt-fed machine gun match on a similar schedule.

Very fun!

I took home a 1st place team trophy from one of the 5 Gun matches. It now sits in my office where my receptionist doesn't have to see it.
