AK74 24mm muzzle brake options

Recently picked up a Waffen Werks bulgy ak74 and I really like the rifle. It has the standard ak74 style muzzle brake, and the threads are 24mm I believe. This rifle is already pretty light on felt recoil, but I was wondering if any of the aftermarket offerings really do offer any increase in performance over the standard brake.
I have watched a few comparison videos where people test a few different brakes for the 7.62 ak47, and there is one Tapco that seems to do the best job, but it is only available in the 14x1mm lh thread pattern, so I seem to be out of luck there. Any advice or tips would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

If ur brake is a legit ak74 brake then stick with that....the tapco isnt designed to disperse gas like a real half moon brake

My tapco was such a pOS the bullets hit it and threw lead all directions. Went with a PWS Jtac now...tight and actually does what its supposed to do.

I can't imagine that it's 24.5mm threads, that's almost an inch. Not saying I know what it is...

The zig-zag 74 brake is arguably the best. I have yet to see an aftermarket one perform even close to as well. Just keep it clean.

You have very few options for muzzle devices on the AK74 with a 24X1.5MM thread. There's the Manticore Arms Night brake and the SRVV Jet Brake. Don't recall any others besides the standard AK74 brake, which does it's job perfectly fine.

SRVV brake is the shizznit, but the OG zig-zag and half-moon brake would be fine, and even without it, no one hardly notices anything in semi-auto non-rapid firing

For you curious types the reason the pattern is so large is that on the 74pattern the barrel itself is not threaded but rather the front sight base is as it has a threaded portion that wraps around the barrel itself

The Tapco one isn't a "real" brake, just an "AK74-style" brake. Stick with the original zig zag or half-moon brake.

The standard AK-74 muzzle brake is very effective, it's usually cited in and of itself as a great muzzle brake for other weapons to follow, you probably won't find a more effective brake out there, at least not that would justify the investment.



The Tapco one is a poor imitation that's mainly just for looks.

My understanding is that the Tapco brake is only for looks.

The standard ak 74 brake is the best brake out there for the 74. Other brake style may work with your rifle but the original is the best.

24mm bulgarian flash hider, Manticore FH and Brake, SRVV brakes, and russiansurplus.net had some of the Taktika Tula Russian Brakes.

Slant cut refers to the original AKM style comp.
Zig zag and crescent are variations of the 74 style brake.

These were never produced, I guess a lot of the AK guys prefer the stock one.

Don't kid yourself, there are a lot of AK guys that will spend $100 or $200 for a part that improves the accuracy or rate of fire on target. I've turned down offers of $300 for it and I agree the stock brake is the best. The BCE AK74 brakes were going to be produced for Rifle Dynamics and sold exclusively by them but things did not work out. Rifle Dynamics decided to use the AR version and cut and re-thread their barrels and build their rifles that way.

I received mine as a gift from one of the owners of BCE and I would never sell it, I kind of like showing it off. It's a great brake, it keeps the rifle flatter than the stock zig zag or moon brakes but it does look a little funny.

Owning both a zig zag and moon 74 brake I can't tell a difference.

There are definitely more options if your running the 14 thread pattern and most of the 24mm options look funny and weigh a ton.
