I'd like to know if an A1 length will be offered. And why did you choose PC/ABS? Simply because they solvent weld the easiest? It isn't the best choice for chemical resistance. Many solvents and cleaners will easily ruin it. Since you are injection molding, why not use a better suited material and sonic weld the two halves together? Heck, I wouldn't even mind if the two halves were screwed together.

Hi Sydwaiz,
We will be offering LOP spacers once the rest of the tooling is up and running. The length for the base stock was chosen because it was by far the most common length in our survey. For now, slip on butt pad spacers are an easy way to increase LOP and they're cheap.

We went with PC/ABS for the machined run because it is the strongest, most cost effective, and bondable material commercially available. Despite its vulnerabilities to certain chemicals. We have tested the ABS against most gun lubes and solvents and it didn't have an effect. The molded production stocks will be 20-60% glass filled nylon.

Ultrasonic welding was one of the first options we looked at. The quote we got for the machine was $60K plus $20K for a custom horn plus 50 production stock halves for them to tune the horn with.

Small design alterations are inevitable over time and we didn't want to pay for a new horn and tooling every time.

Self tapping screws tore out in drop testing and imbedding inserts to use machine screws is time consuming and expensive.

Thordo had this prototype at the last Cow Palace show last month. I got to check it out and it makes the AR plarform feel like a sporter much more than Exile's product or those wraps.

I'll be picking one up for sure on my next featureless build.

Actually, I would like a shorter LOP. A1 is about an inch shorter than the A2.

I'd love one of those receiver extension covers ("cheek flapper") for my pistol build!

We've thought about that too.

The LOP actually feels a little shorter to me because your hand/wrist is further back. I feel a standard A2 fits me pretty well, but even though the total LOP is the same on the FRS-15 I like it with the pad a little better.

Good point. With a grip angle like that, shooting with too short a stock might put your wrist at an extreme and uncomfortable angle.

It's not uncomfortable at the standard length, but I think if it was for some reason shortened up like an entry stock a normal sized shooter wouldn't be comfortable shooting it for an extended period. (Then again I wouldn't be comfortable shooting an entry stock for an extended period either) You can roll your hand over to the side though if you're choked up on the rifle to relieve the pressure on your wrist and that works well. I know Thordo's working on sourcing different sizes of butt pads too which should fit pretty much every one.

I got to play with it at the Sacramento show and like it a lot. I'll definitely be picking one up when they are out.

I'm new to this whole building thing and I'm putting my parts list together. The cover appears to use a carbine-length buffer tube?

I have two DPMS .308 Lowers coming in. Will this stock work on the said lowers?

It does fit the mounting point but there's no room for the web between thumb and finger to go because the receiver is longer than a standard AR lower. We are working on a design for .308 when we have time but it will be probably June or July before we have a prototype.

It's still delayed. For how long, I can't say at this point. Fedex lost the First shot test parts in Alaska around 2/27 and they haven't found them yet. We haven't ordered the production run and I 'm about to pull what little hair I have left out!! I've asked the molder to send replacement parts in the hope that they get here before the lost ones arrive.

My apologies. This mess is totally out of my control at this point but I'll keep the main thread updated as I get info.
