Open Carry/HD holster for 1911?
Could you guys recommend a good open carry/HD holster for a Springfield 1911?
Will be worn around the house for HD and on occasion out to ranges and shooting areas that allow it. |

Comp Tac and DSG are worth a look, have been very happy with some of the products.
If on more of a budget, maybe check amazon for Fobus stuff, seems to work well also. Holds up pretty good in our experience. Hth, have fun and be safe. |

Depends on the style you want. I personally like Safariland paddle and thigh holsters depending on what I'm doing. Their ALS paddles I use at home and the SLS thigh I use when hunting. They also have the SLS on their duty holsters which is what I use at work. All very well made. Price depends on what you want. The ALS goes for $50-$60 on amazon and the others are usually $90+ depending on which one you get. Good holsters ain't cheap but if you need your gun quick do you really want to risk it not releasing when you need it to most?

Not afraid of price. Want something that i can draw quickly with if needed but is still very secure
Something that will be comfortable to wear around the house but can also double as a carry method if i take it with me to say a a carbine course or the like. All i currently have is an old Vietnam era 1916 holster. While very secure, it is definitely not quick and is very bulky. Last edited by Revolver Ocelot; 01-26-2013 at 3:49 PM.. |

BlackHawk CQC Carbon Fiber SERPA Holster (P.S. these are Lefties)
Ended up gettin' one of these for my G23/G36 a coupla weeks ago and I'll tell ya... ... I really like it. For a HD/Range/Woods holster it works very well. It is very compact and rides extremely close and secure - especially w/ the paddle attached. (although I cut the horn off the paddle to ease mounting/dismounting and the belt-hooks on the holster keep the rig anchored and secure.) The external lock is positive, naturally located, and easily accessed - especially w/ heavy layered clothing. I have been carryin' it at the 3:30 position w/ one notch (~15 deg.) of forward tilt. Draws and re-holsters quickly and easily w/o looking. I may get a Safariland 6378 ALS Paddle Holster for rollin' round and playin' in the dirt, but for a simple positive retention carry rig? ...Best $38.87 delivered to my stoop I ever spent on a holster. Kydex, such as the BladeTech and CompTac holsters I use, tend to mar finishes, except for hard chromed guns. For the "pretty" guns, I use the glove-lined Safarilands with Lvl2/3 retention. Not cheap, not light, but a great solution and investment!

I used the serpa for a while for my Kimber. After having to redo the bluing twice I gave up on it. It was just beating the hell out of my gun. That's why I switched to the ALS. It has a really nice lining to protect your finish.

Safariland has a nice paddle holster for both firearm and ammo.

Safariland 568.
Suede lined and comes with both belt loop and paddle attachments. Comfortable around the house, and works great for classes and BLM land. Don't forget to buy with the CGN link! http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00162TLQ0/...60_cs_sce_dp_1

I think iam going to go with the Comp Tac paddle holster.
I like the two safari land holsters but i wanna stay with kydex and i don't think i need the ALS system. Like to keep it as simple as possible. |

Ohhhhhhhhh I thought you meant it was quicker to draw when shooter is ready...
Almost time for mid-day nap. hahahaha -------- edit to add: We ordered a DSG Comp for the 1911 last year, iirc it took maybe 10 days to get to SD from TX or whewrever they are. It >was< in stock, and on sale at the time. http://dsgarms.com/Category/344_1/Co..._Shooters.aspx Last edited by wsmc27; 01-29-2013 at 10:49 AM.. |

Comp-Tac is my favorite non-concealed with Blade-Tech a close second. Both are fast and have good retention. On the other hand I sold off my Blackhawk Serpa and will never own another.

I'm going to go Galco for my Kimber, I'll let you know how I like it. I cannot in good conscience put my favorite pistol in a holster that will trash it up, so no Kydex for me. Hopefully the Galco will be a good investment. I've heard great reviews.

I'm a fan of the Safariland 5197. They are suede lined, well made, have good retention, and are priced right.
