Default AIM has $90 91/30 "shooters"

http://www.aimsurplus.com/product.as...m=F3MOSIN9130X

Quote:
Original Russian Mosin Nagant model 1891/30 7.62x54R rifles. These Rifles are more for the "Shooter" than the Collector as they may have minor rust, finish wear, light pitting and/or wood has not been refinished by the arsenal . Bayonet included. Bores may be a little dark, but will have strong rifling and will be great shooters. These Rifles are being sold as is at a reduced price, sorry NO RETURN PRIVILEGES.

Stay vigilant. I have a copy emailed to myself so I always have access so long as there is internet. If you do that then you'll be ready for next time

Southern Ohio Gun has Chinese T53s, Russian M44s, and Sniper repros in stock. Shipping works out to about $18 a rifle approx.

Good call!
Though, how do date it? Or have you had yours for a while such that you don't have to fill in the date?

Mine arrived today. It's a 1942 Izhevsk and it's a shooter alright. All numbers matching, except bayonet. Stock not perfect, but good overall condition. Bore is a bit dark, but rifling is strong, and it's not counterbored. I imagine that that bore will regain some shine after mineral spirits bath and some cleaning. See some rust spots on butt plate and bolt handle. Again, good cleaning, dremel with brass brush and it should clean up nice.

What does the square mark indicate on the receiver as well on the stock (not pictured)?

Question about entering to bound book though. Which number should I enter? The original one, or the one stamped by the importer that says "Russian Ser# 000xxxx? I only had to enter couple other rifles into the book and they had "normal" characters. On this one, one of the letters is only found in Russian alphabet. Should I just copy it as it's stamped?

The importer. That is why they put a new number on it, ATF does not recognize the Russian alphabet.

On this one, you can see that the handguard is shaved on an angle at the end (both sides)

On the AIM invoice that came with the rifle youll see the ser#. This is what AIM logged out and what youll log in.

A lot of this batch had stuff going on under the wood line so get it apart and get on any rust spots , i got a hex that had a few spots of rust under the handguard

The square mark is a refurb marking.

My shooters also came today. One rifle appeared as advertised (rough, but definitely a shooter), however the second one had a stock split completely in half. The bottom half is only held in place by the butt plate... Kinda bummed out.

Hey if you're anywhere in the SF Bay Area and AIM doesn't help you out with a stock I've got two that I'd be willing to sell at the price I paid, they ain't pretty, but they aren't cracked either. I got a three pack last time around that they sold them.

Perfect candidate for Archangel stock when they come out, should be soon. That's what I'm doing with mine But I would definitely contact AIM for a replacement stock as that is not a shooter as advertised.

Update on the broken stock - AIM guys are the best! They emailed early Monday morning saying that they are sending a replacement stock set free of charge.
Awesome! Thanks, AIM!

Man, how dirty is this barrel? It didn't look so bad. I put Gunslick foaming bore cleaner in this thing 4 times. By now I probably ran 20 or more patches through it, and I still can't get a clean one.

Got mine today, I think either somebody cleaned the cosmoline off it ten years ago, or it never got much in the first place. Significant rust on the metal parts, and active mold inside the stock. I can clean it up, but dang. This is gonna be some work.

Woah thats some mold there. If you kill it off it shouldnt be a big deal

Maybe dilute some bleach in a cup and brush it in to the wood to kill the spores off. Then scrub it out with soapy water and let it dry out

these were sold as having issues probably not worth a return

If the rust cleans up, I'm not super worried about the mold. I have a background in woodworking, if the stock is not salvageable, it's Bubba time.
