I don't know about ghost guns, but there were many guns with "no record on file." I am sure ATF can do the trace on them.

True ghost guns are out there. In Santa Monica College shooting in 2013, the suspect used an "AR" rifle made from a 80% lower when he shot and killed and injured people. The rifle had no markings at all. He also had a 1858 Remington New Army black powder revolver with after market cylinder for 45 Colt cartridges so he could use it as a regular firearm.

If you consider a gun with serial number removed as a ghost gun, there are a lot out there. Also, home made improvised guns are out there, too.

How many are confiscated? I have no idea.

Very few, that I'm aware of. The firearms specialist/evidence guys came out for a little show and tell and they had three ghosts. If my memory serves me correctly, all three were taken from the same guy though.

Most guns we take in are stolen or have no record on file or have some sort of illegal modification (mags, sawed-off barrels, etc.) Full-auto glock sears or conversions (or whatever they're called) seem to be a popular accessory among the criminal turds.

I have never seen one in the wild, I worked firearms enforcement stuff for a while. Still mostly Saturday night specials and stuff taken in burglaries.

I have come across quite a few SBRs and SBSs though. It is now common knowledge to thugs that they can order a pistol upper and slap it on a stolen ar15 rifle lower. I have seen a couple dozen configurations like this within the last couple years.

Sad part is the DA wants to file the charges vs turning them over to the fed guy.

Although I have come across very very few instances these were Actually used in a crime (other than possession). I can only think of one, sbr, 308 bolt action cut down to almost look like a flint revolver was used in a homocide and another shooting.

Never seen and %80/100 in the wild or used in a crime

Oh yes, criminals love them but they aren’t that prevalent.. 10% at most maybe of our seizures if I had to guess. No record on file, stolen, or obliterated serial numbers are all far more common

This^^^. In the years I've worked at my agency, I haven't seen or heard of a single one.
