Everyone who has posted has their spots reserved and are the roster.

Only one spot is open on the 17th and that will do it for the month....come and get it!

Crap!! The one time that I'm really interested in going to a clinic I have a special weekend I have to work. I'm really interested in doing this. I have a Winchester 101 over under 12 gauge 28" field gun with full chokes I love to shoot trap with. I've shot my single shot .410 recently to try and make myself a little more accurate. I have an extra 12 gauge Remington 870 I can bring if anyone doesn't have a gun. It has full a choke also.

Is shooting with a full choke a problem? I think I do ok with trap, I'd really prefer to use my own gun because that is what I would use anytime I go out shooting.

Yes, full choke is okay with trap. However its a skeet class with shots taken at around 20 yards. You will need cylinder, skeet or IC chokes for the class.

Then I guess I'll never shoot skeet. I'm not going to buy another gun to shoot skeet. It's the same gun my father used for hunting, trap, and skeet. I imagine it can be done.

I realized that that may have sounded a little rash. It's not meant to be taken that way. More disappointment then anything else. I can hit the birds with a full choke all day while I watch these guys with modified chokes hit less then half the birds I do. I don't want to sound full of myself, because I am by no means an expert shooter, but I figure give it a shot unless it's just not allowed. Still disappointed :-/... Maybe I'll try a round of skeet before I try the clinic.

Generally a 28" gun has mod/full and with a 12ga the pattern is probably a little smaller then shooting a 410. I've shot skeet with a mod/full gun but it is definately not gonna be easy to do. I think its worth a try and Lou can always lend you his 870 to shoot if things don't work out.

I'm sorry, I did put 28"... It's the 30" barrel. It's full on both barrels. Says it right on the side. I'm starting to shoot with the .410 too. I actually really enjoy challenges.

I'm not going to turn away any shooter who wants to learn.

Bring any shotgun you want to shoot and have some fun with us.

I used to shoot Skeet with a Superposed choked Mod/ Full back in the day.

I'm trying to get silverbullet to go with. He took your class before. So we're gonna work on arrangements and then sign up for a clinic. I normally have the weekends off, he has every other. If he ends up not being able to go, I'll still come out. Hopefully we'll know something sooner rather then later . I look forward to the challenge, education, and some fun!!

You can try to shoot with any choke on the skeet range, its just easier with more open chokes. One thing is PRGC only allows for #7 or smaller steel shot.
I generally stay away from shooting steel in guns with chokes tighter than modified. That win 101 is a real nice gun and if the full chokes squeeze the shot too tight, the shot can cut thru the cup and scratch the barrel.

You can just bring the guns in, if it does not work out there are plenty of loaners out there for you.

Ya, that I agree with. I don't want to damage my gun with steel shot... Darn it

Is it bad for the threaded area of the chokes if you took the chokes off to shoot? I found some links on some shotgun forums that said it's okay but not recommended. It can cause heavy leading on the threads (makes senses), but otherwise it won't damage the choke threads. However, I'm shooting steel shot, does it make it worse? My Mossberg has Full Chokes and my Remington has Imp and Mod.

I know if the choke loosens and you blow the choke off you can damage the starting threads on the barrel. I guess you can get away with shooting no choke but why risk it. Get a cylinder choke if you want no constriction.

Shooting without a choke tube installed will is never a good idea.

Useing a tube as close to what you want is always a better choice than damaged barrel threads.

Ive read online some ppl say they are okay. However, there are no long term observations on the gun's durability. A o/u at that price point gives me some reservations. I know labor is less in Turkey but a o/u is hand fitted gun and I dont think a lot of time is spent making the Maverick Hunter. IMO, the best bet is to buy time proven designs where all the strength and weakness have been aired out. At that price, I would look for a semi auto such as the rem 1100.

Ya, I figured as much. I just like the idea of O/U's. Always have. I just happened to drop buy for some cleaning supplies and took a quick look.

I like them too but a cheap good 0/u is generally a contradiction.

Ya, I know how that goes. I use that line in my business just about everyday. I was curious. Saw it on sale a figured $330 isn't bad. I really should be focusing on buying a safe.

So, checking the weather for tomorrow, shows a very high chance of rain, weather.com says 100%, so is it still happening? Or is tomorrow off?

Oh, bummer! Is it reasonable to assume that people signed up for the 24th will get first dibs for a future date?

Yup, I know what you mean. I'm about to buy another shotgun so I can enjoy the sport. I'd love to get some REAL instruction though. I hope everything is going okay. I really want to get in on this.
